I thought about staying off this thread. I probably should, but what the heck. Maybe some will find it entertaining or educational.
I know a lot of the background behind this L3 and the people in IPSC who have interacted with
Kyle.
Far more of a wide perspective than you have of your friend.
As Co-Match Director, I have interacted with exactly ONE official from IPSC. Just one. I believe he is the head of the stage approval committee. He pointed out changes and tweaks for our 11 IPSC stages. We happily made most all of those changes. And, 10 of those 11 stages were approved. One stage wasn't, and we went around a bit on it. And, to this day, I am still unclear on exactly what wasn't good to go in the original version.
I debated quite a bit on how to proceed. Over a number of days, I consulted with our President and Vice-President...my Area Director/BOD member who is also a RM(I) [and happens to be the official that will be running the stage]...our match RM...another LIII (IPSC & USPSA) MD/TD...and a few of our CRO''s and RO's that are helping to organize the match.
I actually got a head-ache (which never happens, but I
was out of coffee

) and burned up most of a week on this one stage. In the end, as Co-Match Director, it came to me to make a call...we needed to move on. We felt like we had a pretty good stage and we weren't clear on what might not be legal about it. I made the call that I would consult with our match organizers when we were at the club that weekend, to see if we were going to have the extra props and all that was needed to come up with a different stage. If not, then we were simple going to have to pull it and just go with 10 stages instead of 11. (The score sheets were on order...so we were kinda locked into the round count, and we already are borrowing props from neighboring clubs.)
For some reason, the fact that we might just drop the stage from the match generated a bit of activity. We found a solution that everybody could agree on, And, the 11th stage was approved along with the other 10. The match organizers approved, the IPSC stage approval committee signed off, and our RD signed off. The LIII approval form is now properly displayed at the range and we are more than moving along nicely with the match.
Whew.
As for the apparent bad blood between you (FV) and I...?
As far as I know, the only place that you and I have interacted is on this very forum. And, that is free for anybody to look up. When we had our little spat I had no clue who you were.
I thought you were another guy on the internet that disliked Glocks, and...as a bonus...didn't seem to have much love for USPSA either. I had no clue you were the Regional Director, representing IPSC Canada.
Would that have made a difference? Yeah...probably. I wouldn't have exchanged nut kicks with you had I known you were kinda backed into a corner.
I'd rather not have my membership paying big bucks to go to what's billed as a "Nationals" and find themself at a what I'd put on as a club match, so I'll tell it like I see it.
Well, the guys and gals at this club
do put on a heck of a club match!!
The IPSC match is, as mentioned, 11 stages and over 200 rounds. And, if you can also make the LIII Ohio USPSA match, that is another 10 stages and over 200 more rounds. 21 stages and 400+ rounds...not a bad weekend. Plus, we are going to run a shoot-off side match on Saturday, after the Ohio USPSA match. And, later that night, and informal get-together to bend elbows around the bon-fire.
I should probably mention that...I did get an email from a Canadian shooter that is attending. He had been told that all we were doing to switch over from the USPSA match to the IPSC match was to change the paper targets out. That is not the case. While we do have to work with the many of the props we have...
we are shooters first... I highly suggest making a good, fresh, stage plan before shooting. You'll need it. (even if you do recognize a few props from the day before)
Note: Saturday's USPSA is full and we have a waiting list. The USPSA match on Friday, with the staff, has openings.
There are still openings for the IPSC match on Sunday.
