I was up a 2:45, had all my stuff packed and was out the door by 4:00. I got to my area with 45 minutes till legal light so I shut the beater down and had a little nap listening to rain tap on the roof and the odd flash in the sky. When it was light enough to move I headed back into an area I like, parked and walked the quad trails, climbed and called and shot some pictures. It's still too hot to take hunting very seriously and I never heard another shot. I did bump into some guys glassing for sheep but they didn't see anything neither. In one spot I was sitting atop a hill surrounded by deadfall and was chirping on the Hoochie Mama more for the fun of it when a chipmunk decided to investigate the fat man making all that noise. He was within a few feet of me when I suddenly looked right at him and that little bugger took off like there was no Tommorow. :D Anyways, here's a few scenery pic's.

beautiful!
I lived briefly in Calgary 10 ya.
I love mountains - any kind.
We should do an exchange - you take me elk hunting,
I take you grouse hunting in ON.Oh, wait - you have grouse there :) !!!
I went bear/mule deer hunting north of Peace River. You could killl grouse with a stick there...

Hunting is about getting away from the urban sprawl....back to nature....notching a tag is a bonus....as long as you had fun and no-one was hurt it is all good....some of my funnest hunts was where we didn't get anything.

Campfire beside Canadian Shield Lake....sound of Loons....Beer in hand or Shot of rum or rye....HEAVEN on Earth.

Moose Camp here I come....

Great Pics!

very similar to areas I hunt around GP and GC...great pics...put up some more..
I'll just add... I love being in mountains or foothills, where clean rivers and streams flow and you can get down and have a drink of the coldest freshest water you ever tasted...

Looks great, but not what a prairie boy likes to see. Too closed in, claustraphobia sets in, let me out. need to see a grain elevator two miles away across the field.

I will need to varify those pictures. You will need to send me money for a plane ticket, pay for my hotels, and meals. I will see that it was indeed you who took those pictures, and that you are located in this area for hunting as you say you are. When I have had time to thoroughly hunt.....I mean examine the area, I will ask you some skill testing questions, and if you get them right, I will enter your name in a draw in our local hunters magazine, which will enable you to win several very nice prizes wich include a case of Ontario popcorn, some used but well looked after hunting socks made in China(lead filled for extra warmth). These are just a few of these great prizes you could win!! Act now Jason, this is a limited time offer!!:dancingbanana: Freakin beutiful pics mister! Cheers!:D

Glad to see that your title is, "Elkless elk hunt," and not the usual, "failed hunt," or something similar.
Especially with our western country side, no morning trip out there is any kind of a failure.
In fact, I have often said about big game trips, "We were having a great time, until someone shot an animal."

Hunting trips are incredible fun until someone spoils it by shooting an animal.
Then the work begins.:D

Great pics.
