vz 58 vs cz858

AFAIK, neither is a knock-off. CZ (maker of CZ-858) and CZ Hermex (maker of CZH2003 or vz-58s/l as most call it) are both Czech state supplying arsenals. CZ is specialized in small arms and Hermex more so in heavy arms.

Asides from very minute differences, like the longer non-chromed barrel on the 858-2, they are made to the same pattern and I expect you'd have no trouble exchanging any part from one to the other.

I have both:
the 858-4V, restricted, chrome lined 390mm (15.5") barrel, folding stock
the 858-2, non- restricted, non-chrome lined 477mm (18.4") barrel, fxked stock.

The factory target provided with the longer one is significantly better grouped (2 inches instead of 4). I don't believe this to be statistically different though, comparing just two string of six rounds. I have only tried the shorter one so far, with the surplus S&B ammo. This ammo, by the way is very constant. I clocked it at 2341 fps with standard deviation of only 14 fps. Got 2" groups at 50m, consistent with factory target.

I bought the muzzle brake with it, which I believe is a must. I also have the scope mount, so part of my future testing is going to remove some of the shooter's (me) inadequacies out of the equation. More results later.

This is a fantastic rifle, nothing can go wrong with it. I bought from a CNG machinist a bolt carrier with the handle on the left side, like on my MP-44. The looks with the folding stock is just fabulous. The longer non-restricted looks just as great.

My only advice, hurry, get one before the supply dries up or they get banned. If they come up with a chrome barrel on the longer one (Marstar is trying to get them), I will probably upgrade my -2 version.

Cheers.

They already have one here, th VZ58L.

Gentlemen:

If I may, while I know a board supplier has listed them in the past, there were realatively few units available, and looks like there will be no more on the horrizon in the near future.

Some one please correct me here if the above is inaccurate.

regards

Well I have a parts kit from a CZ-858 and a Restricted CZH-2003 and the bolt carrier DOES NOT fit on the CZH. They are not dimensionally the same.

So there IS a difference. I am getting a CZ-858 hopefully by the end of the week. When I get it, I will gladly take a slew of pictures showing the differences of each.

;)

Well that's a surprise.
I blame Hermex. :D

Can't wait to see the comparison though. You should take a pair of vernier calipers to the parts while you're at it and see how big the differences are.
I'm pretty sure there's a few of us who'd be interested in knowing.

they are the same ...the bolt carrier that is in the CZH has a chunk milled off to fit the chunk of metal welded in the receiver that’s all. Therefore the bolt carrier in the CZH will work in the 858 without any alterations.

Well,

Whatever the case, I have pictures to show you guys the small differences in the rifles anyways. The top is the CZH2003 Rectricted version and the bottom is the CZ 858-2 Non-Retricted.

Here they are:

I know the pictures aren't great, but I can agree that it's time for a new camera :D.

Interesting pic. The top is the Restricted CZ. The trigger guard flares out to block the Mag Release.....interesting.
The CZ 858 has room to easily engage the lever.

Thank you for the pics. I get mine this week (858)...I hope Tuesday.

Thanks for posting the pics!

It's interesting to see the differences between the CZ and the CZH, especially in terms of how they were... ah... de-auto'd?

Good stuff.

I still don't get how the selector switch on the CZH goes into the full auto position. What is making it not actually shoot full auto?

Also notice how that metal block extends much farther than on the CZ858.

Here are some more pictures.
