I have a friend of mine that is willing to sell me his chinese sks for a steal of a deal, just wondering how well they are made compared to the russian/yugoslavian/czech made ones?

From what I Know (which can very from lots to Sh*t) It depends on what version of Chinese made it is. There are the Norinco made ones, which some consider to be lesser then a russian or yugo made one. Then there are the military made ones, ones that were made for the PLA and are considered to be relatively equal to Russian. There are two types of chinese military ones, the regular SKS, and the SKS D. The SKS D is different as it has been modified to take AK-47 magazines, the SKS Ds are highly sought after by collectors.

Ill hafta ask him which one it is. I guess either way I can purchase a lot of aftermarket parts to make it nicer, hopefully the action is good. He only wants 130 from me with ammo

$130 with ammo seems like a good deal. Just get a look at the rifle before buying it. Right now, the majority of the 7.63x39 ammo in Canada is Czech surplus, which is ridiculously corrosive. If not cleaned properly, the rifle can rust pretty fast. how fast? If you live in a humid area, a thin layer of rust can develop with in a few hours. Leave it for a few weeks and you might have a crusty booger that used to be a SKS.

There are the Norinco made ones

I could be wrong but I don't believe Norinco made any...just tinkered with a few variants and distributed them.

As for the differences, they should be pretty much the same.
Fit and finish does get a little sloppy on the Later period Chinese made ones.

I think you're right. They may have refurbished some, or swapped parts around to build the guns. All the chinese guns should have a factory number stamped on the side, most look like a stylized triangle with numbers inside of it, and that tells you what arsenal it came from.

The good thing about the chinese SKS is the chrome-lined barrel which protects it against rust--especially from all the corrosive milsurp ammo you'll probably be shooting with it. I don't believe the Yugo's or Russians had chrome-lined barrels. Although if you clean the barrel right away it shouldn't be a problem anyway.

A Norinco SKS is the first rifle I ever bought, and I shot my first deer with it. It's lots of fun to plink with, accurate enough, cheap to buy and the ammo is even cheaper...so have fun :)

Ill definitely have a look at the rifle before hand, if the barrell is chrome-lined that would be great, im sure all of his ammo is czech surplus. Isnt there a place where u can order non-corrosive ammo aswell? Wolf?

ive got a norinco and a russian sks and never had a problem with either. as far as functioning goes, I dont see any difference. coming up to 6000 or so rounds or so of surplus ammo pumped through the norinco without fail. never had a rust problem either, just make sure to clean well after use.

You can get non-corrosive ammo for it. It can be hard to come by. For some reason in Canada we cannot get US made ammo in that calibre--Remington, Winchester & Federal all make it--but they aren't allowed to export it here. However, European brands are available. Cabelas Canada (formerly SIR Mail order) sells PRVI Partizan (PPU) brand ammo in 7.62x39mm. I've also seen Sellier & Bellot ammo at some gun shops around Ottawa, so it's around anyway.

all SKS made in china are chrome lined bores but the chambers are not so focus cleaning there.
I have a chinese sks and he does have chrome chamber. On the left side of receiver its marked "
sks 7.62x39mm made in N.J. China
exported by Norinco G.Z. Finnish not as good as my russian but very reliable rifle.

My factory 0406 chinese SKS has a chrome chamber...

i stand corrected .

previously , i did a cold blue test on 3 of my threaded barrel and all 3 came out as non-chrome .

today i looked at my pinned barrel and it looks chrome and a quick test proves that.

thanks guys. are your barrel pinned?

Mine is a threaded barrel, non lightning cut bolt, stamped trigger group, D marked rear sight, spike bayo that has a receiver serial number that is F 111,25** (everything else is stamped F25**, including the stock) and has a fit and finish that rivals my best Russian non-refurb SKS's. It is kind of an odd duck.
