I just recieved a new 858 from moving target and the carbine appears to be painted a very dark gray almost black as opposed to the fugly grey they had before.

I just got a new one, too. Looks like the bottom pic. Although I'm far too heterosexual to really tell that those pictures are different colors. I guess the wood is a little redder, but that's all I can see.

The new ones are slightly darker, the same as the used mags that are repainted and shipped as new with the new rifles. All good, just not coloer matched the same. I prefer stripping them and reparking them with a healthy dose of Krylon in the traid marked Kumpat;). Just my opinion.

I was pleasantly surprised with my 858.

When I picked up my m14s, I had 'Chinese' in the back of my mind. So the little visual issues did not bother me when I received it....

This is my first 'Red' Rifle. I wasn't to sure what to expect. Is it slapped together? Cheap labour that doesn't care...? Bad metal? Bad fitting parts?....

It is a brand New rifle...and looks like a brand NEW rifle. All the parts look great, even the mags - look new to me? -

Of course this is just a visual observation. I have yet to fire it.
I will install a few of the accessories and take it to the range on the weekend.

So far, So good.
I am happy.

It's a brand new rifle produced by a reputable company, that isn't in most people's definition of the bargain bin. There's absolutely no reason why it shouldn't be as nice as any other rifle, with that description. Mine is certainly put together well enough to justify being the second most expensive firearm I own.

These guns sell for over 1000 dollars in the states!

I thought some of the parts on these rifles were surplus

Correct, some parts are, but

CZ-USA's Jason Morton said:
The recievers, fire-control system and stocks are new, while some smaller parts, like the magazines are from surplus stock. The barrels are from surplus stock, but were hammer forged in the CZ factory

Seeing as the 858-2, doesn't have the original chrome lined barrel, I assume them to be new commercial manufacture by CZ. Which means basically that the only real surplus part, is the magazines. I was actually mistaken :)eek:), in that I thought they were completely new, but that is a fair mistake, given the condition mine came in. No cosmo, no nicks or scratches, everything nicely oiled and shiny. Looked just the same as every other brand new gun I've ever bought. So I guess the restricted ones have surplus barrels, but that and the magazines is pretty much it.

I personally don't mind if its darker or lighter, the paint will just bubble anyways, I shot my friends 858 the first day he got it and the paint on the barrel bubbled almost instantly and excessive rounds were not being fired. I dont know if anybody else has had this issue? I personally would repaint it right out of the box with heat treated barbecue paint. Flame suit on or in this case heat treated suit on :p.

WOW just opened the box, its NEW and MINT, No Cosmoline, and all oiled up niocely, even the leather accesories is new!

Mags look surplus tough... receives is mint and shiny. I LOVE it!

Everyone should just buy one the the 858-2 Tacticals instead of an SKS hehe

I want to buy one, but trying to deside if chromed bore of a restricted one is actualy worth the hustle of the rest. rifle... Can any one give me some groupings to compare,
From 858-2 and 858-4... Is restricted really more accurate....? And is it really hard to clean a non chromed barrel....?
