I have owned both the G17 and the M & P 9, and based on how it fits in my hands, I would have to say the M & P 9 ... and if it had adjustable sights (as a factory option), and a 5 lb trigger pull (instead of the factory 6 + lbs), it could be a semi-finalist in the "jack of all trades" option for anyone seeking a versatile platform. JMHO...

Have been a hard core Glock fan for years, the pistol works great for me. I have had Glock 17s ,20 and now a 27 with no problems at all and parts are so easy to find even though i have never need to change anything out. Trigger could be better, but it allways shoots!

When the M&P has a 20 year legacy of reliabilty like the glock has, then I will get one. Glock is by far the most reliable handgun ever made

When shooting, the hump in the Glock grip is uncomforatble and does not fit into my hand. No other reason. Try gripping a CZ or Tanfoglio the grips on those two guns feel more like a firm breast than a C cup. You may end up buying one or the other. Personally I prefer flesh as opposed to fabric but to each his own.:D

I also preferred the M&P grip over the Glock. I know the Tacticool guys consider ignoring pain as a sign of their testerone levels but personally I don't need the aggrivation of a poor grip design to deal with, while I am shooting and for me the Glock grip has a lot of problems and a poor design for the mitts at the end on my elbows.

Take Care

I've never heard of anyone compare pistol grips to breasts:D

I own both in 9 millimetre, and a Glock in .40SW. I like the M&P's fit alot more. But, that's about it. The Glock, when I first had it, had a FTF problem. But, that was because I was new to semi pistols and was limp wristing. Not a problem anymore. The Glock I've customised to my own needs. The M&P doesn't have much to customise with. The Glock has never broke down, despite thousands of rounds thrown through the barrel. The M&P's ambidextrous safety broke once, and I had to get that fixed. The M&P HAS a manual safety. The Glock, doesn't. Well, it does, but you know what I mean. The M&P is more accurate than the Glock. The M&P also seems more fun to shoot, as it does fit better in my hand. Though the above list places more positives over the Glock, I'm going to have to say they are both equal, and can't vote on this. However, in a purely theoretical situation where I could be allowed to conceal carry, I think I'd take the Glock over the two. The Glock has proven it's reliable. However, a 1911 trumps both of them.

I have fired them both, (thanks to EESA members :) ) but own neither as of the moment...The MP9 fit my hands better, and for my stance and hold, the MP9 pointed better.
Which is a better firearm?...the better question is which is a better firearm for you .

I have shot various Glocks that belonged to friends, both 9mm and .40. And though they functioned well I just couldn't get a comfortable grip on them. Holding an M&P in the store, I found the the gun was comfortable in my hand and pointed naturally. I have always had revolvers or steel guns (HiPower, Llama 45 ) but when I decided to "go plastic" I liked what the M&P had to offer.

In Apr I picked up a M&P45 with no manual or mag safety. I love it. Only problem I have had was with some poorly assembled handloads that had to be fired single shot.

The Glock is a great pistol (Yes Phil, I will admit it) but if you have only one grip style and minimal ways you can adapt it, you have to accept that it will not fit everyone's hand.

Now if you will excuse me my brass is ready and I have to load some ammo.

and scientists have produced winged pigs in an effort to make "lite bacon".

They're good, but for Chr*sts sake read something other than promotional material once in a while. Rail inserts can crack, striker assemblies can pump, recoil springs can break, and then there's the whole kaboom thing. No machine made by people, to be used by people is without issues. Either the person, or the device will fail. Talk to people who run rental ranges, Glocks are slightly better than some pistols and slightly worse than others.

Try before buy

G17 vs M&P

liked the grip better on the M&P - medium swell, ergonomics were superior
liked the hinged trigger on the M&P, the G17 safety trigger didn't feel comfortable.

Purchased on feel - M&P40

And that has been what everyone has always said "buy what feels good, feel comfortable in your hands"

The same can be said regarding kabooms. The vast majority are the result of reloaded ammo, others the result of the wrong calibre(.40 put through a .45). I agree that they can and do break like any other machine or tool. The frequency at which they fail is far less than other pistols. There are other functional attributes that no other pistol provides as well.

I'm a Glock guy because they work and work well. They are far from "perfection" but they're closer than the rest..

I wasn't a fan of the M&P, but saturday a guy at the range handed me his M&P 40 after I let him try my Sig P226 in 9mm. He thought the sights were off on his M&P, well I put 3 of the 5 rounds in the center. This gun shot well, even if he had the smallest baskstrap on, he changed it after he tried my Sig. :D
I liked the recoil of the .40 S&W.

I will have to buy one. :D

I like my M&P 9mm.. I can't comment on the Glock since I haven't tried one, but I have moved up to the larger backstrap on the M&P after I started with the Medium.. so I am not sure if the Glock grip would work for me. The versatility of being able to change grips is an excellent feature.

The only Glocks that interest me are the G26, G19 or the G20. If I could get the M&P compact up here for the same price as the G26 I would ditich the G26. I think the G19 is a great design, not to big and not to small, sort of the like the Commander 1911. The G20 makes a good bush gun.
