can get parts and warranty for the glock in Canada.. Can't seem to for the S&W

Normally, getting parts isn't an issue here - there are 2 warranty depots in Canada. There may be delays right now, given the hysteria in the US, but then you're lucky to find primers these days too. A new production M&P (Rev N or later) should be trouble free for at least a year (or 10,000 rounds). The reason you can have problems buying a striker right now is guys like me who thought they'd need a spare (or two) and it turns out they didn't :D

It is true that some people want to have spare parts for their pistol. It is also true that Americans have been stockpiling everything relating to arms and ammunition.

This S&W striker thing is something else entirely. I am still waiting, and getting madder and madder. Every day, when the mail has arrived and there is no striker from S&W, I am reminded of greentips' experience with a unserviceable M&P - and this was long before the Obama effect on demand - when he too got no satisfaction from S&W until after he had complained loudly with a warning placed here on GunNutz. (S&W put out that PR fire pretty quickly.)

Late entry:

M.D. Charlton replaced the broken striker and returned the pistol Oct.2nd. Strikers from both Brownells and Smith & Wesson arrived Oct.6th.

Every gun can fail, but I do recommend the M&P, Have two of them and no problem so far...
The 9mm gets a good workout about every two-three week, accurate for a fighting gun too.
The .45 is less used, ammo cost

As for the S&W service, greast so far too, When I ordered the first M&P, the free mags give-a-way was about to end, and they received my letter too late.
So I received a letter that explained that they will not send me the mags.

A quick email to the customer service ; explained how our great canadian laws work ( even worse in Quebec ) and even that I've been 2 weeks late on the program, they sent me the two spare mags without any more questions !

I've never shot a M&P but handled a few. They are comfortable enough.

Been shooting Glocks since around 1995. They work for me, so I voted Glock. Although, there's apparently nothing wrong with the M&P.

BTW, geez this is an old thread.....

NAA.

I agree that they can and do break like any other machine or tool. The frequency at which they fail is far less than other pistols. There are other functional attributes that no other pistol provides as well.

I'm a Glock guy because they work and work well. They are far from "perfection" but they're closer than the rest..

TDC you read to many ads. Last time I looked Police Departments carry Glock parts for a reason. Glocks are very good service pistols no doubt but really what evidence do you have they break less than any other pistol. JR from the Shooting Edge has posted on this forum about his experiences with Glocks and I don't recall Glocks being significantly better than other pistols The Shooting Edge rents out. As to reliability, isn't there a Youtube video of a Glock's inability to handle limp wristing.

We all like our guns and have bought them for a reason. Some buy because LEO's used them, which is great of you are a cop whose department has budget restraints but hardly a reason to buy a Glock if you like shooting tin cans or shoot competitively in Bullseye shooting. Others buy their guns because the top shooter in the sport they have chosen wins with them. It all really becomes very subjective and very personal, hence the passsion.

I never said that Glocks don't fail, they do. Failures occur in two fields. Operational failures such as double feeds, stovepipes etc, and mechanical failures such as broken springs, pins etc etc. The frequency of a Glock going several thousand rounds without a stoppage or breakage is very common. The limp wristing video is a joke. Inducing a stoppage due to improper technique has nothing to do with the design of the firearm. I've tried to limp wrist my pistols and can't duplicate the results in the video. Either way it proves nothing.

The Glocks at TSE see more rounds than the other guns due to their "Hollywood" status. All of the guns see infrequent cleanings and maintenance.

You're right, a pistol choice is a personal thing. As you mentioned some choose their pistol because someone else uses it, others apply logic and determine what attributes best fit their intended purpose and go from there.

I have an M&P in 40, have shot the M&P in 9mm, Glock 21 and 17. I much prefer the M&P's...it just feels better in my hands (props to the grips).

I'm someone who likes the look of guns as well....and as far as looks go, the M&P wins hands down. The Glock looks too square....hey, they both do the same thing, why not look good while you're doing it? :)

Failing having handled both at the same time, can you guys tell me which one has the wider grips? In .40S&W but I knot each brand's 9mm and .40 share the same frame size.

Small grips don't do it for me, it feels like a toy when it's not wide enough and I just can't grip it comfortably, my P226 is just right.

I own three glocks and love them all, they work 100% of the time and I shoot them well. However I have handled an M&P recently and I think I might need to buy one or two of them as well.

I'm having this debate right now. lol

Funny thing is, I'm thinking Glock for reliablility, but by the way the grips are on the M&P, it might be a better fit for the wife. I figure I'll end up with both. I'll have to take her to the store this weekend and fondle some guns! :p

The nice thing about the M&P is that the backstraps are changeable, the largest backstrap makes the grip slightly larger than a Glock, but with more contour. Glocks are more square, with little to no palm swell.
