Although I agree with the point of your statement, one could argue that statistically more people were killed by the MP-40 than the atomic bomb. Of course there are no hard stats on that, but you can imagine.
Only about 1 million were produced, making them comparatively uncommon. I think you were much more likely to be killed by a K98, or a PPSH in German hands!
If you are referring to the Holocaust, the German SD/Einsatzgruppen also used the Finnish Suomi submachinegun according to documents, set to single shot mode, when filling mass graves with Jews and other "undesirables." The MP38/MP40 was full auto only, making it unnecessary and wasteful for execution killings.
