North Eastern Arms VZ/CZ Railed Handguard and Muzzle Brake (with pics!)

You should be able to get a shim stock assortment from any good industrial supplier/metal house, or Brownell's, you can also use stuff like popcans for shimstock.

I will be sending him a pair of .010 thick shim washers and a pair of .08 thick shim washers.

That will fix the problem for sure.

that might be a good idea to have these nut and bolt avail as a kit .

are the bolt's shaft unthreaded ? threaded only the part for the nut ?

Yeah, the bolt is only threaded at the end. Im just trying to track down a nylon coated nut.

I think the shim washers will work best but im going to send Beer Drinker both options so he can decide which best works.

good stuff ... looks like i gotta get me one of these mount.

Here's some more pics of the new NEA brake mounted on my 858. Production models will have a black oxide finish. I think this one will get a shot of Krylon when the bling factor wears off.:) The machining is beautiful and the notch is sized perfectly for the retaining pin.

Now, I just have to get to the range and try it out.

my two cz858 measured .

rear A : 17.02mm B: 17.05mm

front A: 15.80mm B: 15.85mm

i got my NEA mount. it looks good, fits very snug , needs a rubber mallot to gently tap the pin in.

the only thing is when pulling out the pin , if pull too hard the pin would come out , no biggie just simply push it back in.

the mount measure, rear 17.17mm and front 16.03 mm.

You can adjust the tension on the set screw via the bottom right leg. It may help to loctite it in.

Looks Great Stevo, I'm sure it will perform as well as it looks!!!
I thought it had a shorter Barrel?

Nope, it's a non-res. version.

where can i buy a muzzle brake like that...? Any work needed to fit it...?

It's more of a flash suppressor than a brake, though it did noticeably soften the recoil. I imagine Wolverine and GP Tactical will have them soon. No fitting required.

FWIW:
I have encountered this issue with Aimpoint Micro's and other rails , including the very high quality PRI VZ58 rail. There is a fix.

I have a quick question on the North Eastern Arms VZ mount, I looked at one at Target Sports Canada that they have mounted on a rifle, it had the Burris Fast Fire on it and it looked like a nice piece of kit. When we put a Aimpoint Micro on it and tightened the screw down, we still could move the sight mounted back and forth. Is the rail spec'ed as picatinney or weaver? I will be bringing in a LaRue low mounted to see how it sits before making my purchase decision. The fit and finish is excellent and I look forward to the lower mount being made available.

-- I tried a low LaRue mount. It's rock steady on an Ultimak AK but sits higher than the Aimpoint factory mount. Too high to co-witness with the AK iron sights. IMO , not a good fix -- and too spendy.

-- The Aimpoint LRP Quick-Release Conversion Kit ( SKU # 100-003-575 ) seemed to solve the problem ....with my Aimpoints , on my rails. YMMV , but it might be worth a try.
Down here in the US , Brownell's is where I got 2 of these:

Hope this helps.

Its made to 1913 mil spec.

Today I tried fitting a LaRue low mount with T1 Aimpoint, and was unable to do so, I do not believe the rail is machined to MIL-Spec, I tried the same LaRue mount on a Benelli M4 rail & the new Mossberg 590A1 rail it fit both times, every rail Target Sports Canada had in stock (Kyle Precision/Swiss ARMS/TROY/H&K MR223/Night Force - they all could mount the LaRue Product).

I've been meaning to put up a review of this rail, got it a few weeks ago. Just getting around to doing so now and saw this thread.

I shoot a Aimpoint T1 with larue low QD mount on my VZ and am quite fond of it. I picked up this rail hoping that it'd be the perfect co-witness solution. As mentioned above, the micro will not lock down on this rail. I also have a little bit of "slop" in the fit to gas block. It could probably be remedied with shims, but reshimming in the field every time I clean it seems like a pain in the arse.

I tested the rail with my Comp 1 with arms mount, fit was good. I also mounted a scout scope to test the repeat zero and was not fully satisfied with the return. Mostly because of the fit to my rifle. A tighter fit I'm sure would solve this problem, but I just looked at the out of the box performance to MY rifle.

So the bottom line? I'll keep it because it looks good. But it won't be on my "shooter". There's just too many issues with the fit and ability to mount my T1 for me to use it. I love the look of it, I love the profile and most importantly I love that it's Made In Canada. I was asked to do a honest review and based on what I found I couldn't recommend it at this time. It's so close to perfect though and won't count it out.

What would I recommend?

- When the 2-part unit is available, allow the top to bolt to the bottom. That should should give a good repeat zero.

- Figure out what the issue is with T1's not being able to mount.

- figure out how to solve the variation in gas block thickness problem. Shims are great, as long as you aren't going to lose them.

... bottom line; I'm sorry I don't like it, I really wanted to. Like I said, it's so close to being what "I" want. I'm sure that since most shooters aren't using T1's that there won't be too many complaints. Maybe just post a notice and carry on? No one likes us cocky T1 guys anyways. ;)

... BTW, the Brake looks great. Keep those VZ parts coming! (how about a VZ Troy-style chassis? )

I just mounted my T1 on the rail and had no issues. The issue is the LaRue mount. I can understand why as the LaRue mount is pretty specific in its design. Just use the factory aimpoint base, its lower and if you need the QR function Aimpoint makes a very affordable QR upgrade.

I'm sure NEA is gonna update the spec on their rails but considering the fact that LaRue mounts are not legally being imported into Canada and that they are less then ideal for this application I don't think its a huge deal. Save the LaRue for an application that better better suited.

Tell that to the T1 NOT sitting on my NEA rail.. ;)

Same as gadget.. My Larue fits everything else.. why would I change it when I can change one rail instead? I dont even have my stock base anymore, so it's moot anyways.

my T-1 didnt fit my scout mount nor the NEA so i crazy glued shims on the bottom and its good to go .
