Wolf down!

I shoot every wolf I see and have started specifically hunting them with calls now.

Have invested a small fortune on the rifles/loads to be able to reach out and touch them with authority.

Those that spew against shooting wolves haven't a clue what is actually happening in the bush when you see a moose killed by wolves and all they do is eat the tounge out of it and leave it to rot you would change your uneducated views.

Here in BC there was a notice stating not to touch ANY wolf without gloves as there have been some cases of "disease" or something being transferred? Didn't get a chance to read the full notice.

Anyone know anything about this?

Maybe mange?

On another note, it seems the "wolf huggers" replying to this thread are urbanites from eastern Canada. That's odd....

Burn :kickInTheNuts: !!

But seriously, I am a displaced urbanite who works north of the roads in Ontario. We're supposed (as a province) to have the highest wolf population, though perhaps not density, of any province at an estimated 8,500 - 10,000 animals. Quebec is closely behind us in estimated population.

I almost never hear them, and I almost never see them. So to hear what a problem they are in other parts of the country makes me a little curious - not critical, but curious.

I don't care what people (want to) shoot, but amongst my peers (i.e. CGNers) I think it's reasonable to ask where and why.

Sorry to get political in the wrong forum, but I'm curious by nature. I think the story and the photo starting this thread are awesome.

that is one hell of a long poke for a 338f! :) I am shooting 185gr tsx @ 2730 fps, +2.5" high at 100 and its -15" low at 330 yards....probably 3 feet low at 440! good job

Wolves can be detrimental to famers with livestock, especially cattle. It's not unusual for a farmer in my area to lose upwards of 30 calves in a winter.

They can also greatly affect wild prey species, but I do believe nature has a way of balancing itself, it's just that hunters don't like to see a significant drop in game species. It will never occur that wolves will completely wipe out a particular species. Their numbers are cyclical, much like the lynx and snowshoe hare.
However, in my area, many of the moose have been shot out, so we're seeing more and more wolves coming into the farmed areas, wreaking havoc on livestock. The root of this problem isn't the wolf, but we won't get into specifics on that subject.:)
In the past, wolves here have always been relatively secretive animals that didn't take well to human traffic, but hunger has changed that.
Another reason is that the Game Wardens can no longer use poison to control them. Add to that a poor market for furs and the only wolves killed are by hunters such as the OP. That number is very small.
I don't believe anyone, myself included, wants to see wolves wiped out, but when they affect your livelihood, one will see them in a different light.

they aren't allowed to eat and survive tooo???

what mean ''hammered the elks'''???

Wolves have no natural predators, so if we do not control the numbers, they will. And there won't be moose/deer/elk for us to hunt. Some guys already wait years for a tag...would only get worse if the game numbers keep dropping.

You guys can debate it all you want, all I know is evertime I see a wolf, lead(or often copper) is flying at it.

If there weren't laws about wasting the hides of Black bears the same would apply to them.

Personally the way I look at it, if there is a NO BAG LIMIT on wolves in your area, there must be a reason for it, shoot them.

Black Bears though don't tip the scales of wildlife like a Wolf does so I see no reason in wanting to just up and shoot every one you come across.

The way i see it is if my fridge has food in it then i don't need to hunt, this way the moose, deer or what have you do not need to die needlessly and then neither do the wolves.

If someone needs to hunt to sustain themselves then power to ya.

If wolves or yotes kill your livestock and therefore effect your livelihood then by all means take the furry buggers down.

I am only trained to shoot people and paper so until i need to hunt to live that is all i plan to shoot.

my 2 cents. :)

I bet the cows/pigs/chickens that you eat think differently...

If you don't hunt, stay out of the hunting forum, and stop stinking up my thread.

You must fit right in at that national park. Do the granola crumbs in your saquatch beard ever end up falling out and jamming your keyboard?
