If you open the door and take the back of the door off you'll see the "internals" that control the keypad. Mine is the moment you put batteries in, the thing wont lock, but the moment you take the batteries out, the think will lock up tight.

Mine last about a 1 or more before it started acting up. Now it's just a key safe.

For $30 it's still a decent deal even when the keypad dies. I've just popped the cover off and got the two keys, works just fine for me still.
 
I have the exact same unit. About a year now with no issues. It is bolted into my bedside table with my G17 and 2 loaded mags. I called into the CFC to ask if this was legal, and you should have heard the ANTI type contoversy that I started. The person was asking me why I would want to keep a handgun in a safe without a trigger lock, and why not just trigger lock it to be extra safe. I said it is just a hypothetical question as I was having an argument with the legality of this with a freind. They told me it was legal, but not safe. Well it makes me feel very safe.

Been there, done that. When I was poking around it I saw the locking mechanism and lost faith in it. I had two Sentry V330's (key and manual combination lock) at the time so I binned it. I agree they are a step up from the tin boxes some other companies pass off as 'safes'.....YMMV.
 
After replacing a lock on my Sentry gun cabinet, and hearing the locksmiths opinion on Sentry products, I'll tell you I'm very happy with my cheapo safewell product. I've had it for almost two years, keep reasonably fresh batteries in it, and it's never had a single failure. For triple the price I could have the equivalent from Sentry, and be one of the many supporting the education of my local locksmiths children :rolleyes:

No, not triple....the V330's I bought were $50/ea new. Your money, your choice....

For $50 thought it looks pretty good....these "safes" are best bolted down in a hidden area which isn't too hard because they are so small.
I think they would be pretty good bolted down in a trunk or in the back of a van for a vehicle lock box.
