Seems to me that the AK47 is possibly the best (`Most popular" Stevo) assault rifle in the world. Period. Cheap, reliable, and lots of'em.
I read once the AK47 has killed more people on this planet then any other weapon system in existence.

I don't see the VZ with that kind of clout, or even built in a fraction of the AK's numbers.

Knowing those little tidbits of information....my vote is for the AK47

Seems we have a little bit of jealousy from people in this thread who can't own one. So they resort to the next best thing. Sloppy seconds, The AK's ugly sister, the VZ58!

What does "best" have to do with numbers made or people killed by? Oh right, nothing.

I would say, that just by ther numbers alone that it takes number one place. Not to mention the countless countries who adopted the AK because it`s the best firearm of choice, friendly to economics, production capability, actual effectiveness, ease of use ...ect ect.... So instead of answering your own questions in your own post, take a look at the real stats, before you put your foot in your mouth.:kickInTheNuts:

Dude, you're hilarious. Do you know anything about the Cold War and Soviet history?

Good work editing your post. "Popular" does not equal "best".

I have fired thousands of rounds through AK's and an RPK. I will take my CZ858 over them any day. Much more accurate. More ergonomic. Lighter. Did I mention more accurate? ...

Ive tried both, I prefer the feel of the AK and its just damn ###y. I only got to fire a few hundred rounds so I can't really put the VZ next to it but I've heard countless times how it never jams so I can take their word for it.

I did however own a VZ and put 1000's down the pipe, very accurate! and yea, I had the thing jam pretty darn hard a few times I needed a rubber mallet to open up the bolt. So for those who say its just as unstoppable ... although mine might of been a lemon as it wasn't even firing out of the box when I bought it new
still I like it, but an AK for me.

I like my cz, but you're all crazy. This is like arguing which is better :driving a mustang or camaro/ Jessica Biel or Alba/ Star Wars underwear or losing your virginity. Everyone's entiltled to an opinion. I'd like all of the above at the same time.:p

Your logic is absolutely retarded. yes the ak was more proliferant around the world but this has nothing to do with quality or realiability. It has everything to do with price, it just so happens that the gun is also reliable. They are reliable because they are built to loose tolerances which is because they are cheap mass produced firearms. this is also the reason they are not that accurate. they were originally designed as full auto and meant to spray bullets and kill lots of people. This is not the kind of firearm a sportsman wants. I don't have my CZ for killing people quickly, and in huge numbers. I have it for fun, reliability, and accuracy. Accuracy being the most important. Your logic would also mean that the Ak is a better firearm than a m-16, or an ar-15 and If you think this is true than there is no helping you. Just because the communist give these cheap rifles to their soldiers doesn't mean they are good weapons. Who is winning the most wars the U.S. and the M-16 comes out on top.

What good is having a gun you can't use? You could have the biggest #### in the world but if you can't ever take it out of your pants what good is it? :jerkit: VZ is a better option for CANADIAN shooters...

I have used an AK for two years in the army. Nothing special. I bought a CZ858 few month ago and was pleasantly surprised. It is light, relatively accurate, has a slim profile. Sure I like my Blue Star better, but it was 4 times more expensive. My only complaints about CZ are the stock and the sights. But I am almost done changing the stock, hopefully I will be able to do something with the sights.

The only down side to the VZ58 really, is the price... Maybe I'm dating myself, but I remember a time (not so long ago it seems) when you could buy 2x AK for the price of one VZ...

But that's beside the point, as we can't legally shot the AK's anymore (that why they are dirt cheap again)...

Of course, you could always hunt for one of the Valmet Hunters (the 'nicest' AK I've played with), but beside been 3x the price of a VZ, they don't shoot all that better...

have owned semi, have shot full auto/semi ak's. perfer the cz/vz. Look no further than to Armedsask and Stevo's points.

Shaznay, do not confuse politics with qualities of a weapons system. As a aside, if your post count isin't higher than the number of rounds you've put downrange, maybe you should hold off typing a bunch of BS.

I have owned 2 AK's (one regular with under folder, and one full stock 223) the AK is a much bulkier firearm (haven't gotten around to buying a VZ yet, but I will) handling, packing and general movement with the VZ is much easier, it shoulders better and from everything I've seen shoots better. Oh yes, and there is the fact that you can still buy them and shoot them.
