SIG Mosquito Owners - A question

Ok, so I have two SIG Mosquitos and in both I have noticed something interesting. When I use hyper velocity or high velocity ammunition - it feeds and works flawlessly (i.e. Stingers/Velocitors); however when I use standard velocity ammunition, I am experiencing some jammage (sometimes it can be almost every round in the magazine). The two ammunition I used were T22 and Dynapoint (whitebox), the weird thing is that after I fired the complete first mag, the next 4 mags (I have 5 total) will almost always never experience a jam. This only happens with the Dynapoint ammunition whereas with the T22 I will have 1-2 jams in the first mag and the remaining 4 mags will fire flawlessly.

I have a theory: The theory is that as the barrel heats up it is raising the velocity of the 22LR ammunition (making it slightly "hotter") making the pistol more reliable as the pistol requires higher velocities to operate reliably. It supported by the fact that when I reload the 5 mags, it starts all over again (w/Dynapoints) and I have tried a different mag as the lead mag in 5 different sets with the same results. Unfortunately my sample is small, so my question is this - are your mosquitos doing the same thing as the two I have? The reason I want to know is because I believe this will confirm (for me at least) that the jamming problem is completely related to ammunition NOT design/problems with the pistol. This is also supported by the fact that most other Mosquito owners are forced to use the highest front sight made available to when zeroing with their bulk ammunition. I believe Sig designed these pistols for hotter ammunition.

Regardless I am happy with my mosquitos and highly recommend them - having fired thousands of various 22LR rounds through them, the higher "snap" of the stingers really make it worthwhile to buy them and the jamming problem is definitely in my mind an ammunition problem.

Have you tried switching the spring under the barrel when you change from high-velocity to normal-velocity ammo? I found it made a big difference in mine. Just don't leave the weaker spring in with the higher-velocity stuff as I've heard it will lead to an overstressed slide which can lead to fractures.

The "heating up" theory may be well-founded. My gunsmith told me that he needed to use a smaller than normal pilot (little cylindrical thingy he inserted into the barrel to keep it centered) when he shortened the barrel on mine. It probably isn't the heat giving the ammo extra power but rather the barrel might be expanding slightly. The looser the ammo fits in the chamber, the better the odds of it ejecting properly... at least that's the way I see it...

Matt, I am using the heavier spring for Stingers and the lighter spring for T22/Dynapoint. The funny thing is that even if I use the heavier spring for the T22/Dynapoint, all that happens is that it will take a full mag of T22/Dynapoint guaranteed to heat up the rounds and even with the heavier spring the cheaper stuff functions fine on mags 2-5. I know this isn't very scientific so next time I am out I will write down exactly what happens - this was just an observation whilst putting 5 mags of ammo downrange.

If your having jamming issues with the Mosquito on one mag and not the rest, chances are it's that single mag that's causing the issue.

Mosquito mags are about the cheapest pieces of crap Sig could have thrown toghter. I was so unimpressed that I wrote a letter to Sig letting them know that I thought (and many others for that matter) that I would probably have an easier time customizing a generic airsoft pistol magazine and getting it to run rather then putting up with the JUNK mags that the mosquito mags ship with.

The Mosquito I had for a few months was not a good gun, period, and I would not buy another.

45 - you didn't read my post. It is not one mag, I find the Sig mags to be pretty decent. I don't know what you are expecting for a .22LR pistol but it is on par with the Ruger 22 Mk 2 pistol I had and it is definitely better then the factory 10/22 mags I had (those used to jam a lot). With the two mosquitos I have I don't understand why so many dislike them, they are reliable with hi power ammo, shoot accurately, and have the functionality of a full size sig.

You said:
after I fired the complete first mag, the next 4 mags (I have 5 total) will almost always never experience a jam

Which leads me to believe that "the first mag" your using is causing the problem. Now if your rotating your mags, this obviously would not apply to you.

As for "have the functionality of a full size sig", well, you either bought the best Mosquito ever made or your lying.

Glock4ever you're not the only one to have similar issues there are many threads on this subject. I have had ftl and fte problems with my brother's sig, I really thought it was a piece of crap gun. I use only the least expensive ammo he uses only what the gun store hands him which would be high velocity. He has few issues I have had many until recently when on several outings his sig worked very well for me for about 400 rounds, no issues at all.
To sum this up, after some several thousand rounds the sig enigma has seemed to disappear from my brothers gun. I plan to shoot it as much as possible this winter so I can confirm or modify my experience and speculation.

45 - You obviously have problems reading: "It supported by the fact that when I reload the 5 mags, it starts all over again (w/Dynapoints) and I have tried a different mag as the lead mag in 5 different sets with the same results."

As well you appear to have limited comprehension - functionality does not equal reliability. Functionality refers to the fact that a mosquito has SA/DA, decocker, a slide that operates like a full size P series. I don't have the best mosquito made and I am not a liar these are just some facts and observations.

Try Winchester 333's

I have tried most of the cheap ammo and surprisingly I found that the cheapest ammo I can get is very reliable. Try Winchester 333's from walmart. Also I disassembled my mags and smoothed all rough edges of the plastic follower with very fine sand paper, they seem to operate smoother now. Also my dealer told me that the second generation started after serial number 50000 and these work better than the older ones.

I just bought Winchester Xpert HV, Winchester 333, and a box of Dynapoints. I am going to do a test and record how many FTE/FTF/FTL I get in each load. I will use the CCI Stingers as a control to compare against.

I actually noticed that with my Mosquito as well. I have a Sig M. which actually shoots any ammo I put through it. But the first mag of rnds usually jamms after every other shot. As soon as I put the second mag in, its a new world.

Mosquito!!!!

OK, I have one of those 22's. I like the feel and size of it, however I had problems right after the second mag. Sometimes it was the first round that jamed or the second or....etc..... I did everything I could think off to fix it,but in the end it was the CCI mini mags that took care of the problem...now I can cook off 1000 rdns+ and no jam!!!!!!!!!:agree:

I second that. This issue has been kicked around over and over.
