Thats all fine and dandy right now, but one day not to distant in the future there will be liberal elected as PM, then guess whats most likely to occur, you guessed it, sks's are now either restricted or most likey prohibited and now your stuck with several hundred pounds of useless metal and wood with no takers. Its just a matter of time before those idiots regain control over us once again. Just my opinion.
I bought an AR15 in 1989 for $800.00. That same AR15 today sells for $1500.00. When I bought it it was non-restricted. Today, it's restricted. I don't see it's classification hurting the value at all. There are hundreds of thousands of AR's around that sell for $2000.00+, and no one bats an eye to owning 10 of them. They see the value in converting their dollars to hard goods.
In ten years, our dollar could be worth toilet paper. That's good news for you if you spent $3500.00 on 30 guns 10 years prior when your money had value. You've now converted your dollars into hard goods. You've hedged your bets against worthless paper and the economy. I read a phrase once: Buy guns, gold, and ammo. Today, you can buy 1120 rounds of 7.62X39 for $160.00 and SKS's even BEFORE these come in for $169.50 in a ten pack. Your SKS's will retain their value even if they don't double in price. Your Savings Bonds won't.
If your SKS suddenly goes prohibited, AWESOME! How many gun owners have them, half a million? That's 500,000 new 12-5 gun owners in Canada. I can see AK47's and a host of other 12-5 prohib gun values double overnight because 500,000 new gun owners just came onto the market. I see dollar signs for all the dealers selling parts and accessories for them licking their lips. Do you think the Lieberals will allow that? Doubtful. I also bought an AK47 in 1989 for $197.00, non-restricted! Today they are prohibs. While that was TWENTY years ago, that same AK47 sells for over $400.00 today. Even if you hold your Canada Savings Bonds for 20 years, they still won't double in price. ($1,112.86 will be your total interest over twenty years; your SKS's will still beat a bond)
And then finally there is the TSHTF consideration, but you need to have a tight, shiny tin foil hat for that. But many gun owners don't discount that variable either.
I am just trying to find the positive in whatever comes our way as gun owners.
