Colt 6920 and 6940 at CRAFM

OK mrsmitty. The winky face is a little small so people might get the wrong idea that's all. And FYI I do have a Colt Defense 6920 but it is not for sale. It has been rock solid so far at 1500 rounds and I love it as well as my XCR and AR180B.

No need to make unfounded accusations mrsmitty. Only trying to understand the ever changing US export laws.

Good luck... I do it for a living and still don't "understand" the ever changing "policy restrictions". The Export Laws are clear... difficult but clear... what's not clear is US State Department Restrictions. Dangertree once said it very nicely... he called US State Department restrictions "ever changing goal-posts". The reality is that there is no hard list or fixed regulations... State Department changes their "guidelines" constantly and often with little consistancy. I've seen two identical permits processed on the same day by 2 different people at State Department, with one permit being approved and a second (identical permit) being DENIED. It's insane sometimes but that's the way it is.

I've given up trying to understand it. We simply work the system and do what we're told. Sometimes we get lucky and get approvals for things we previously couldn't get... other time we get denied approval on items previously approved for export. That's just the way it is. Kind of like Canadian firearms laws it simply doesn't make sense.

Can anyone confirm the size of the fire control pins?

And just for clarity the fire control pins are the trigger/disconnect pin, and the hammer pin, NOT the front and rear take-down pins.

There is about a .020 difference in size, with the "mil spec" pins being around .154" and the newer Colt "commercial" size being about .174".

You can make one|(or have someone made one) if you absolutely have to - it is not rocket science...you just have to pay up.

They have pictures on AR15.com measuring the pins.

kenjuudo. Yes that was what I thought that anything marked 5.56 Nato was not exportable. My new Robarm XCR is marked 223 Rem. I think Robarm had them roll marked as such for US export laws.
My Sabre Commando has " &/NP 5.56x45mm NATO LP/05 " engraved on the barrel. Lucky me, Wolverine was able to import these from the UK. SDI must make them there otherwise wouldn't be able to sell them here (or England for that matter). Am damn glad, 'cause this is an immaculate AR subcarbine variant. :)

Plus, Sabre Defence is now one of the top-dog AR manufacturers, being one out of only three corporations (Armalite, Colt) that sell M16s to the US government. So, it's almost like owning "genuine" like a Colt.

I'm obviously very content with my XR at the moment, however, I must say that that AR6940 has me interested. I like the integrated rail and pop-up front sight. Mebbe some day this will be my second AR.... *dreaming*

I used their search function and had about the same luck. Any chance you could supply a link?

Further search found some of the 6940 threads. Couldn't find the pic thread, but found discussion.

Sounds like the barrel extension is different than the present style. Therefore not as simple as a barrel swap. Also guys talking about a barrel tool, and not easily obtainable as of yet (2009-10-27 posts)

The 6940 is a thing of beauty. I love the flat top design. For that kind of money however, I might be inclined to go with a Sig Classic. Ideally, I'd like one of each!

Thanx RR. I couldn't search that far back. Those are well done pictures and answer the questions. The barrel nut has gone HKish. Not a bad thing, just different.

The flash hider & collapsible stocks are NOT pinned
They have standard sized fire control pins and standard size pivot and take-down pins
