It's kind of like cars isn't it? Lots of people look at the Corvettes and Ferraris and Porsche and Rolls Royce... I could keep going but you get my point... and they dream of one day owning one but realize it will never happen. It isn't expected that everyone will own one... they are built and sold with a certain portion of the market in mind.

The majority drive much less expensive cars... some are happy with what they drive... some are unhappy but have no choice... some find it a temporary choice until they can (and do) move up so to speak.

In the end though they all do the same thing really... go from point A to point B. But just because a Yugo, a Focus and a Ferrari all burn gas and go from A to B definitely does not make them equal... not in any stretch of the imagination. There are many who can (and do) argue that the Ferrari is inferior to XYZ vehicle... and in some respects it may well be... (gets terrible gas mileage, has little trunk space, not exactly "quiet" inside... but the to person who owns one it's not inferior... and he (or she) views anyone who criticizes their purchase as nothing more than jealousy (wether it is or isnt' that's how they see it).

The SCAR or the PS90 or the Knights SR-25 or any of a long list of other "high end, high priced" firearms are not for everyone... that's just a reality. Their manufacturers don't expect the average person to buy one... get over it. They are being marketed to a small percentage of customers who have disposable income and for whom price is not an object. That's the same with Ferrari, Rolls Royce, and many of the firearms companies.

If all it's about is price then buy a Norinco AR-15... they function... they hit what you aim them at... they pretty much do what most other AR's do... why would anyone buy anything else? But they do :)

That's my thoughts... I don't put down the people who can't afford them and I'm sorry if it upsets some people to see them or if some people feel they are overpriced... they are what they are. Get over it.

I make no apologies for selling this stuff... I actually quite enjoy bringing high end products to discerning buyers. If some people think that buyers of these firearms are stupid then so am I because I have quite a collection of these "high priced toys" myself. Sometimes I wonder if I'm stupid too... but it hasn't stopped me. I guess I'm just lucky enough to be able to afford them.

What I really wonder is: How many of those who say XYZ is junk or overpriced or not worth the money, etc... how many of those same people would buy one of each if tonight they won a lottery and had 20 or 30 million dollars to play with. If money wasn't the issue... would the opinions and comments change? I suspect for many they would :)

What's that old adage of the SuperModels: "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful"?

Well don't hate us that can afford the expensive toys. Besides what else are we going to do with the money... can't take it with us and I'll be damned if I won't have some fun before I'm gone. ;)

Thank you for putting it in perspective,

Not sure if I understand why you're getting your knickers in such a twist. If I'm not willing to spend that kind of coin on something that I can only use to punch paper or (I assume) competition, It's not like I'm slagging you for your business model or anything. I also don't think that it's stupid for guys who really want to to spend SCAR kind of money on these things. If I had 30 million to play with, I'd probably do it as well, but that's because having that much money changes the priorities a bit. I believe that my argument was sound.

But to continue your car parallel, if I had the money for a Ferrari, I'd buy a Prius and install a geothermal system in my house with the rest... and maybe buy a nice rifle with the change.

That being said, I spend amounts on bass guitars that send my wife hunting for TUMS... I tell her it's okay because I make money back off them, but she's not buying it anymore...

My knickers are definitely not in a twist... you misunderstand me. I didn't take anything that was said here as any slight towards me or Questar... rather, I was commenting that (in my opinion) many people who slag a particular gun as being overpriced as compared to others in the maket or "way too expensive" or "not worth that kind of money" are really saying "I can't afford this" and that's understandable. The point I'm making is that Rolls Royce doesn't expect the majority of car buyers to buy their product or even be able to afford their product... I don't believe that FN expects everyone to run out and buy their SCAR instead of a basic AR. Knights knows they are a premium priced product... they're not even attempting to compete with Remington or DPMS or RRA on the low end of the 308 AR market.

Frankly the customers who buy the high end stuff do so as much for the "cool factor" as for the privelege of owning that which few others have or in some cases what few others can afford to have.

It will be a long time before SCAR's will be available in any kind of quantity and I seriously doubt there will be many brought to Canada... if it ends up that we only are able to import 6 or 12 of these guns before the US cuts off exports or something else limits their availability then the $3,999 price tag will seem low as buyers will start to bid them up here in an effort to get what is hard to source.

It's not about how good it is (though they are pretty good) it's about how rare they are, how difficult to get and how few there are compared to how many are willing to pay the price to buy one. It's about status... it's about showing off... it's about having what others covet but won't admit to wanting. It's about human nature.

And it's about still having the right in this country to do so :)

I'm reminded of a poster I had years ago... He who dies with the most toys wins!

OK "point taken" anyway that means there's only 11 left :)
Where do I send the cash?
Cheers, Keep up the good work!!

Although I wish Questar had better prices, If I were Mark, I would say and do the same thing. Keep bringing in Tier 1 products Mark. I for one appreciate a well engineered product, and like anything else you always pay piles more for that last percentages of quality, or precision. Besides we layshooters need firearms to aspire to and drool over, otherwise the game gets boring. I may be a snob but I feel cool, shooting my LMT MRP, beside a guy shooting a SKS. IMHO.

Keep bringing in the unobtanium - Well worth the price - I know the hassle you have to go through to get it --:)

Yeah, I get the exclusivity thing. And for those who can do it, all the power to them. I certainly won't slag someone for spending money on his or her interest. I was only speaking for myself and where I stand on the price : performance ratio thing.

So, on the importing bit, how does it work? I'm guessing that a rifle has to say 'Made in the USA' to be used by their forces or somesuch. Will there be Belgian-made ones as well? That would seem to be a good way around US export restrictions, but honestly I find the whole import/export part to be confusing.

Mark, are you "exploring " the exportability of the SCAR? :)
BTW there's one on Gunbroker we could use as a "test case"?

I have an inquiry into the SCAR 16s and 17S importability question and should have an answer week of Nov 2-6. Will post when known. If yes I will have three in Jan 2010.
