Desert Eagle .357

The DE in .357 gives you one more shot than the .44, which gives you one more shot than the .50 - so the .357 gives the most rounds the gun can hold (two more than the .50).

The DE is a fairly heavy gun, so that it will absorb the shock of firing pretty well.

The .357 is a very powerful handgun round, and would be slightly cheaper to shoot (whether reloading or buying commercial).

However, if you really want to rock, the .44 will be more satisfying. Pushing a bullet that wide feels different. I got out of the .44 scene and now stick to .45 - it is still wide and powerful to shoot, but MUCH cheaper to feed. The savings and shootability outweight the loss of power, IMHO.

.44s and .50s often end up getting shot less and talked about more - they become safe queens and bragging rights. If you have money to burn then go for it, but if you actually plan to shoot, count the costs, realistically, ahead of time.

Oh yeah, btw, big guns are much easier to buy than they are to sell - lots of guys admit that they're desirable, but not many will actually pony up the money and buy one.

Finally, before you lay out the bucks see if you can arrange to try actually shooting the type of gun in the calibre you are thinking of buying. Or at least shoot A gun in that calibre. I know a few guys who were all set on a .44 or even .50, and then shot them, and walked away feeling differently.

Anyway, good luck and keep us posted!

If you are going to reload for the pistol... go .44Magnum.
I've always wanted a DE, but, I can't justify the cost.

Go for it though. They are definitely interesting pieces.

Note: They are soft shooting... a .44Magnum in a DE is not the same as a .44Magnum in a revolver. The big DE's action soaks up a lot of the recoil. I can only assume a .357Magnum DE would be like shooting .38special in a recolver :D (*I have fired both the .44Mag & .50AE * Fun!)

The DE in .357 and .44 batters the brass badly, in extraction and ejection, and yet can't be underloaded because it would cause poor cycling. One friends .357 de tears the rim off, another guys .44 de bends the rim and won't fully close(and the firing pin fell out while cycling.

I shot a 357 at Wild West. It didn't cycle very well with the ammo they had.

I may have been limp wristing it. May not have been properly looked after? Who knows.............

I must have shot that same gun there quite a while ago. Do they ever clean those things? It was so bad, I started clearing my own jams after the second stoppage. The RO watching over me got a little choked, and I told him I don't have all day. Not until my paper got reeled in that he saw I knew what I was doing. The look on his face was pretty priceless, and the target hangs on my fridge. I guess they see all sorts of wannabes there trying to prove themselves with the biggest and baddest gun. Also, I looked pretty dumb not knowing how the indoor range works.

He asks me "Are you familiar with the operation of a semi-automatic pistol?"

"Yes, I have several."

Scrunches his nose. "So you know how to load the magazine?"

"mm hmm. How far is that?"

"48 feet." Said like there's not a hope in hell I can hit it. Might as well be a mile away.

"48, that's it?... Only a .357? I was hoping for .44 Mag." Said just to get his goat. :p

Nose migrates further up into his head.

23 holes come back in a group easily covered by the palm of the hand, with 2 flyers that I know weren't pulled. He's looking at me like the scene form Quigley when he dumps the bucket over as a demonstration. "Eh, not bad." I say with the outside voice. The inside voice said "Holy crap, this is getting hung up."

I'd shoot one again, just wouldn't pay for the priviledge.

I don't think you can jam a gas operated pistol by limp wristing. Recoil operated actions yes. If you limp wrist the DE's, you hope the gun is empty when it whacks you in the head. Oh yeah, you can shoot cast in them, just have to be gaschecked.

I fired a 44 rem mag Deagle this week end for the first time.
This is one Big Pistol for sure. The slide feel like it's on a railroad.

The owner of the pistol told me, in order to have it cycle he needed to load it very hot loads.
Factory load would not cylcle properly.

Recoil wise the .44 mag felt almost like my 9mm. My S&W 686 was hitting like a mule compare to the DE.

Would I buy a DE probly not , but I think thats there is no pistol more BADA$$ then the desert eagle. If want your after is the LOOK , you need a DE

Huh? I tried a Desert Eagle in 44 mag as well and the recoil doesn't have anything to do with a 9mm. Unless you are trying to control of muzzle climb like a mofo and develop a monster flinch.

Hi Guys I'm looking for opinions on the Desert Eagle in .357magnum. Anyone have any experience with one. How is it compred to the .44mag? In that question I mean which do you prefer.
It's a big, showy gun. You'll be the centre of attention.

It's also capable of supreme accuracy. DE's have done well in silhouette shooting.

Keep it clean (which is a bit of a pain as with any gas-operated gun) and it will be completely reliable.

.357 is cheaper; .44 mag is showier (and will produce a larger muzzle flash). If you're just poking paper and don't care about a big bang, go .357. Either way, ensure that your hand is large enough to grip properly before buying.

Thanks guys for all the replies. I finally bought one in .357mag. and it's not for show as I usually shoot alone at our range. Most of the guys work and I'm retired and shoot during the day. No one else will see the gun except the wife who doesn't care what it looks like. I dont have it yet but the transfer is complete and I can't wait, Cheers Guys.

Congratulations!

One very important ifo; stay away from cast or plated bullets, use jacketed only.

Just do not ask my friend how he learned this lesson. I 'll tell you; he did it HARD WAY!

guess what Caliber:) Yes I am the owner of this one;)
