"Tacticle" rim-fire

Cheap? There is non. The tactical part means overpriced in gun dealer language. The cheapest option right now I think is a Remington 597 VTR at $450-500. I hear that the Umarex Colt M4 has been released, but it is gonna retail between $600-700, and is restricted. The S&W M&P15-22 appaerently has to be physically reviewed by the CFC before making it available, and they will be more reasonable at between $500-600, but apparently still restricted. You can get a 10/22 for $300 on the EE and put a fab stock on it for $300 more, but you will need other parts and prolly a shorter heavy barrel to complete the look so $1000 dollars is more likely, but would be non restricted.

This is my Remmy 597

I like it and it's hoot 2 shoot. Can't wait to take it to Thompson Mountain and run it threw the 22 course they have set-up.

go all out just buy a good gun not a .22. they get boring fast. they just dont do enough damage. they are cheap though

At around 5c - 10c per round the 10/22 is much cheaper to shoot especially if you are just shooting at targets and having fun.

A happy medium IMO would be an SKS. I have a sweet looking SKS on the go and for 16¢-20¢ per round and a decent SKS for $200 its a fun and cheap gun to shoot...

I was dissapointed with the accuracy of the 597 though. I have an old cooey 600 bolt that i can break pencils with at 25 yards, so I sold mine after a month. Complicated to take down, although not too hard there is a good chance of stripping some of the 10 plus screws/bolts. Just wasn't worth the non restricted registration i have the cooey for thiat. I am hoping we see the M&P 15-22's soon.

I don't think it's really possible to build a proper black 22 without spending some real cash. I put over $1100 into my Krinker, and compared to what others have posted here - I'd say mine is considerably cheaper. Do yourself a favor, save your cash for a couple months and get yourself something really sweet. You won't regret it.

Satain where did you get that folding stock and barrel shroud for your Remmy VTR, and what did they cost? Thanks, they look kool.

A used 10-22 or Remmington 597 can be found in the $200 price range if you don't mind waiting for the right deal. The Archangel kit from Mysticplayer or Fabsports is around $230 without sights. So for around $500 total you could include a 25 round mag or a cheap set of optics.....buy used, and maybe you get both.

Yes I realize that they are polymer kits, but the two I built have no flex at all. They require no sanding, just a small washer shim to straighten things out. This is about the cheapest route you could go IMHO.
