WHAT is the MSRP going to be when the madness is over.
I sure hope Kel tec stuff has improved in the last 15yrs, most of the stuff i have shot is crap.
bbb

Just also adding that I really want one of these. When this does finally make it into Canada, it could very well be the most kickass rifle on the market (all things considered: .308, bullpup, non-restricted...).

From the look of things though, with the production problems and high demand in the States, it will be a long while until Kel-tec is going to bother going to the trouble of exporting this into the socialist paradise that is Kanuckistan. I'll have to set up some kind of reminder for myself to check back into this--in about 5 years or so...

so... importing... what's the holdup?

Someone's going to say fulfilling orders in the states first, but there are at least two on gunbroker right now for less than retail, so what's the deal????

Please tell me that there isn't already one moldering away in the RCMP labs while they stuff AK47 guts into it to make it go full auto...

Keltec is going to do it for us when Walt manages to get them to ship an order to us. But right now the demand is high in the US they don't have time to make special barrels for Canadians.

So far 181 is the highest number I've seen. It might be a bit higher now, but production has been fairly low the last while.

Are they still producing their other models, or are they devoting all their tooling and machinery to the RFB now do you think? I'm kindof surprised they're being so slow...

They are making a new facility specifically to produce RFB's.

Hey Epoxy,

Just over 200 huh? Perhaps they have just one guy working on their current RFB production line. I wonder what the real number is for how many people truly are working on producing RFB's...

You come across any updated info on when their new facility will come online?

I've been checking in on the postings over at the KelTec users forum, but I haven't seen anything less vague than "Q4 2009". (Same timeline listed on the main KelTec website.) From what I read, it sounds like the new facility isn't meant to replace the old shop; it is just a new storage building for their materials, parts and products. They are going to be moving more CNC gear into the freed up space at their original place. I was glad to read that info, as previously I thought they'd be changing production facilities completely, and that sounded like a business/production disaster waiting to happen.

I'm sure looking forward to them getting their new CNC machines milling out receivers and other components. Hopefully, that will free up some skilled labour who could then focus on quality control while training new rookies on how to properly put together an RFB.

But, while expansion at their current location is probably the best choice to ensure the quickest time to market for their RFB's, I still see long delays in reaching full capacity while they train people and optimize the production methods. Fortunately, I can't see them having trouble finding competent, skilled workers given the state of the U.S. economy.

But, as much as I enjoy speculating, I'd rather have the facts. So, anyone know the inside scoop on what's happening down at the KelTec plant? Perhaps someone could PM me with a KelTec phone number that doesn't lead to an answering machine?

I'm also fairly disappointed in their production capabilities. They've been working on this for over two years to get it right, and should have gauged interest at the shot shows. Yet for some reason they're producing them as if they were a one off prototype.

Or maybe they didn't get it completely right. Perhaps we're lucky they're not in full swing yet as they work out some minor bugs.

I've read the same info you have Grox6. On the bright side it gives more time to save for one.

Yep, the last bit especially.

I can't help wondering the same thing too, is it a problem with the design that they're trying to fix or a manufacturing bottle neck?

Judging from how heavily efficiency affects smaller companies, I'm guessing the latter. All it takes is one machine going down, or an inefficient process at one step and you suddenly have 400 recievers and no barrels, or 1000 barrels and accessories but no completed recievers. Can't make any progress and probably is a waste of time to ship individual rifles, so they just spin their wheels, keeping other parts of the factory producing what they can in the event they can find a way to open up the bottle neck and recoup lost time.
