I think there are two ways to look at net access numbers. The first is more acres accessible and the second is more hunters with access. Both equate more access yet the loss to those who have worked for the private access is very real and if RAMP sweeps across Alberta everyone is going to feel their share of that sting.

I generally keep out of this debate, both here there and everywhere.
You will find some people very passionate on this topic,... I am one of them..but my oppinion is only that. It really seems difficult to get the real "goods" the " down low" on RAMP...
but for my 2cents,..it would be awful.
As for access and contacts, I really liked the sign s in Saskatchewan that said
" HUNTING with PERMISSION ONLY"

Norskie was correct, It was a program for marginal crop land . The payment was $100/ acre and it has to stay grass for 20 years.
Surprising how good something can be if you leave out a few ingredients.

I toally agree. I hunt a ranch west of where I live and me and two other guys have exclusive access. The rancher figures we kill enough deer and elk to satisfy him and he knows us well so he doesn't have to worry about anything. But, offer him some money through RAMP and I'm sure he'd sign up, taking away my semi exclusive acess and opening access to all. Not good for me but I guess overall it would be considered more net access despite the fact access was permitted prior. That's the thing about statistics...they can be interpreted in many ways. I guess the baseline data that was collected when landowners signed up for RAMP should offer some clues as to what type of net gain there was...if at all.
Yes I saw that and as I pointed out, there may very well be some "new" opportunities for some hunters just as in the example I used. Hopefully the baseline data collected will answer some of those questions. I'm pretty sure that's what Omega was getting at as well. At least that's how I read it and why I agreed.

Last year I was contacted by a rancher who had read some of my posts(on another site) and he said he completely agreed with my opposition to OS/RAMP and I was welcome to hunt his place any time I wanted.

Things are starting to make sense now.
Sure I know for a fact I have new access in 108 and 300 that I never had before. Pharaoh2 (I think that was the poster) would never had the chance to hunt there either as he like I live too far away to do the meet and greet with the land owners.

I don't think that equates to more access. It is easier access. I don't know where you live, but I am sure you would have a phone line. I do think face to face meetings are better, but most landowners would understand a phone call from a faraway place.

Do you have an MD office where you could pick up a land map?
Do you have a telephone?
If you answer yes to both of those questions you have the same tools that I used to get access there (in 108) - so I don't buy your argument there - but you have illustrated one of the things that I fear, most guys might not know how or are not inclined to approach getting access by actually doing some legwork..
I say too bad for the ones that know better and lets give the correct skills to the new hunters.
I guess another way to look at this might be, did any of the landowners currently allowing unlimited access under RAMP ever deny acess to anyone that sought permission before? That I know for certain is a "yes". I'm guessing that will be part of the evaluation process considering the questions asked in the landowner application. Not hard to see how the government can make a case for increased access. I'm just saying........
