WOW! That CZ858 was way too loud for me ...

Send them back I tried mine out great for handguns but anything in 7.62 you might as well use your fingers. But on the bright side they fit really well.

my bro-inlaw swears by them , he was shooting .223 .

maybe you should have tried the higher moder EP4.

Shot a buck with my CZ858 tonight. I have the standard muzzle break that I got from Wolverine Supplies - if my memory serves me right. That thing is absolutely too loud. Is there an effective muzzle break out there that doesn't leave me with permanent hearing loss???? Type loudly, I can't hear a thing ...

I recall firing my old VZ58 with the factory muzzle break and yes it's ridiculous. The only thing I remember being louder was a Valtro PM5 with the ported barrel. I've since gotten way better hearing protection, but from a hunting perspective I would ditch that break!

Peltor

Peltor amplified headphones work well for hunting - Your ears are warm, all gunfire is kept at a safe level , and with the volume at medium you can hear a black fly fart -
Your footsteps sound like godzilla stepping on skyscrapers.

which one are you referring too?

I think that you hit the nail on the head. I was on a trail with large hills and trees on either side - essentially in a funnel for the sound, but sometimes a person has to shoot in tight spaces. I agree, when I shoot beside a buddy with a break - it is really a killer on the ears. Thinking of going to some kind of earplug that allows me to hear normal sounds, but blocks the KERBLAMO!!

They work really well I use them all the time

you might want to keep an eye out for a muzzle brake made by kasat (i assume he made it, i bought it from him), i never noticed a recoil increase but it did seem to be quieter than normal:)

Recoil Increas? WTF? Quieter? WTF?

Muzzle breaks decrease felt recoil and muzzle movement for follow up shots. They also make your gun seem louder as they deflect the escaping gases, and noise out to the sides or up, instead of straight out the barrel.

Maybe someone should point out that although muzzle brakes and flash hiders can look similar, there is difference.

YHM-28-5M1.jpg

Muzzle brakes redirect some of the hot gases from the burnt gunpowder out to the sides or up and some even redirect it back toward the shooter. This re-direction of hot gases reduced the recoil and helps prevent muzzle rise. Makes the gun seem really loud too.

YHM-28.jpg

Flash hiders simply allow the hot gases to more quickly mix in with the cooler air to reduce the amount of visible flash from the hot gases. Flash hiders (I have found anyway) generally direct a large portion of the sound downrange away from the shooter thus making the gun sound quieter to the shooter.

I hope this helps. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

i'm no expert and someone said that because the brake was forcing the gas thru small forward holes it "may" add a little recoil, but i never noticed anything.

the sound difference could be from many variables, including distance from left and right berms, or temperature, i don't know, all i can say is it sounded softer than running it without the brake.

plus it looked pretty nice:)

The sound you get behind the gun could be quietened by a brake...if the gases were directed forward and dispersed, you might lose a little sound.

The KAC TT and maybe the NX3 might reduce the sound a bit for the person running the gun...they apparently don't bother people beside the gun at all.

That intense ringing sound in your ears, is the sound of frequency ranges in your hearing on the way out or dying. You will never be able to hear at those frequencies again !!! If your ears don't ring at all when shooting, you've probly got extensive hearing loss, but i'm no ear doctor.

I also read somewhere in the past, that firing a hi powerd rifle with no ear protection is the equivilant to standing beside a jet engine at full power with no ear plugs in, for that fraction of second.

Only in very rare circumstances would ever have to fire a firearm without protection.
Take care of your eye's and ear's, you only got 1 set of each !
