Yes brothers and sisters this should be the last one, the top three are M 1 Garand, MG 42 and the LeeEnfield, The Lee came from 4th place to finally take 3rd place away from the MP44.

I hope those of you who have been voteing enjoyed the vote and the descusion. so now you have one vote to pick the best one of the three listed.

I picked the M1 for these reasons, it was semi auto and one could fire it as fast or slow,as one wanted, loaded fast when empty.

I went to the Garand as it morphed into the M14 and mini 14. The MG42 did become the MG3. the Enfield is still in military service. Tough choices

Basing this choice on a 1940's comparison, relating to ease of use, durability, handling, accuracy, and field combat application I choose the M-1. Basing it on what subsequent designs were generated out of these 1940's firearms designs, I would have chosen the MG-42.
Though admittedly all three are premiere firearms and represent the best of WW2, though not necessarily the best of post WW2.
Thanks again for doing the polls!!!!

Where is the Moisin Nagant?????????????????????????????????You all forget about Russia in WW2???? Ever heard of Stalingrad????? Jeez you guys probably think Mexico is in South America!!! JITC

Typo in the poll

GRAND

Unless you are referring to what they sell for now in any condition and usually non-matching. Sheesh.

I Can't Participate in the Poll as there is no such thing as an M1 GRAND Rifle.

If you sold your Grand for a Grand it would be Grand.

Go back to School, it's not Too Late!!!!!

I went with the MG-42, as it is still in service, virtually unaltered, today, as the MG-3 (to my knowledge). It has seen service with German troops in the Middle Eastern Crisis as current, as well as through it's history and inception. It's ability to be quickly field-repaired and have it's barrel excanged (Have you ever tried to field repair the mechanisms on an M1 Garand? it's hell for untrained hands). The rate of fire, coupled with it's ruggedness and survivability in history and in service have made it my No.1 choice for best weapon of WWII.

*Chuckles* Ah yes, the "Grand Garand." A lovely gun for sure. Merely overly priced for no real reason. Besides. America's been wearing the big boy's hat for a little too long. Someone feel like a little 1812 Picnic? :p Juuuust kidding. Still MG-42 has my vote.

I voted Lee Enfield again for a few reasons.

More reliable
drop magazines
lighter
No4 has just as nice of sights as the Garand
The bolt action is more accurate and with practice cycles fast enough that you would think it was a semi auto
You can buy 3 Lee Enfields for the price of one Garand

Than a Garand? Maybe. Than an MG42? I say equal.

drop magazines

That were never used by the troops.

Not by enough over the Garand to be significant.

Sure.

Accuracy isn't as important when you have a higher rate of fire like the Garand or the MG42, besides, if you're shooting that fast with a bolt you're not being nearly accurate enough to matter. Bust into a room with three enemy and try to take them out with your LE without having to resort to the bayonet, you'll be slaughtered. Even the fastest LE shooter will never mimic what the Garand can do much less the MG42!

You can buy 3 Lee Enfields for the price of one Garand

Why does this matter as far as this poll goes? Does that mean you won't vote MG42 because they are illegal?
