I have been lurking for a little while on the forums and decided to be social for a change
I'm in the processes of getting my PAL and PALR, currently waiting on getting my papers back from my course and then sending them in etc.
My situation is a little bit unique in that I had grown up with firearms including rifle, pistol, black powder and a bit of hunting with my father. I just never got around to getting my licence until now. I now stand to come into possesion of my fathers equipment (safe, reloading gear, cleaning equip, shooting equip and some fire arms) I am kicking my self for not doing this years ago as my Dad has slowly sold off a moderate collection
Now to my question, thanks for your patience: I'm in the Barrie area (about 20 minutes south, Alliston). I need to get a club membership to do anything with the restricted firearms.
My choices at this time are a bit limited. I have base borden right next door but their range appears to be open only a few days a month, no in-door pistol.
The next is the Barrie club (where I did my courses recently) and I really like their facilities. They are a bit pricey at $375/year BUT and it's a big BUT, you can never shoot alone
I have no one around who shoots, nor do I want to rely on a friend to tag along all the time. I have heard there is talk at their club of having a range officer on site as sufficient but it's no official.
My last choice is the Sharon Gun Club. It is about an hour away, similar price, no in-door pistol but a good variety of ranges up to 300yd. It also appears from reading the website that you can shoot as an individual
However there is a requirement to buy a $1000 share
That is not going to get past the wifes budget.
So are there any choices I'm missing? Are there any members of the Barrie club on here that can give me some feedback? Lastly I really am glad I found a Canadian site for firearms related talk.
Cheers,
