Building a lazer beam for coyotes

So I'm looking at building a rifle, having coyotes mostly in mind. I'd also like it to be a little different. Buddy has a 22-243, and i think that'll be the cats pajamas. But I'd like something a little bigger then a .22, soooo here we are.
I just bought a BDL 270 for the donor, and I've sorta got my mind set on a 6mm of sorts. This is where the problem is. Looking at the numbers it seems a 6/06 is nearly identical to a 6-284 ballistaclly (sp). I'm not sure brass will be an issue with either, but i may be wrong. I've heard there may be feeding issues with the 6-284, but i can't confirm that either. It seems the bench rest guys are hooked on the 6.5-284, but I'm not sure it'll satisfy the velocity i'm hoping to achieve... but again, I'm looking for real world experience to prove me wrong or right.

Any advice from the experienced would be greatly appreciated.... as well as any loads for either:D

And those that will say it's overbore, or a barrel eater... don't bother, that's not an issue.
As for the suggestions or just a plain 6mm Rem, or 240 WBY... like i said... i want something a little different.

Have you thought about 257 Roberts
60 to 120g bullet selection could be some lighter and some heaver
60g 3300 to 3600 fps +- depending on load
120g to 2800 fps+-
factory rounds still possible
brass not total impossible to find and could at last resort could be made from 3006 brass and a few others 7x57
 
No i can't remember but i do believe it eas a Mcmillian project rifle, i will see if i can find the magazine in my stack of magazines from over the years. If i do find it i can photocopy and send you the info.

Have you bothered to read the article I posted? A .240 Wby is nothing more than a necked down '06 with a radiused shoulder and a useless belt. You cound pay $2 each for brass, or base it on a .270 and spend $0.50 each for brass and get a touch better performance to boot.

Have you bothered to read the original post?:D I don't want a weatherbey. I don't want anything based off a weatherby for that reason. I also don't want a .22..... mostly just because i just don't... :redface:
An odd six and .270 share the same case, no? So i would think it would be easier to use 25-06 brass, then either 30-06 or .270 brass, even though both would likely work, which is a bonus i guess.:)

I guess my biggest dilemma is finding real world info comparing the 6-06 and 6-284. FWIW, reloaders nest shows them to be nearly identical.
 
Take a look at the 25-06 ackley. make improved brass just by firing factory 25-06 in the improved chamber.Increases case capacity by 5% . 75 gr @ 3800-3900 Berger 115vld @3200-3300. I have one and it is a hammer on yotes. Neil
 
Just get a 6.5x55mm Swedish Mauser and be done with it. If you want to be creative, go .224 Vais (6.5x55 necked down to .224).
 
Well if you want somthing really different, (but again you would need a longer action) years ago I saw a guy at the local range who had a custom Ruger #1. It shot .30-.416 Rigby and he claimed it pushed 180 grain bullets well over 4000 FPS. Or you could just get a .257 Roberts. :evil: :D
 
Just neck down a .378 Weatherby magnum case to 6mm and have at er'. P.O Ackley used this case for his .22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer. IIRC he set a world record for firing bullets at over 5000 fps. You could also try making one of these.

For added "uniqueness" and a little performance gain, you could improve the 6-06, .25-06, or 6.5-06 to the Rocky Gibbs design. I love my .30 gibbs and I think the 6.5 gibbs would be pretty awsome too. In your case, the .25 gibbs might be a good one.
