Building a lazer beam for coyotes

What bullet weight are you going to be shooting in that 1 - 9" twist?

I'm thinking that it will have trouble stabilizing bullets lighter than 80grs.

Well, i'm gunna try and stick with 87 to 105 ish. I'm hoping with the AI version i can push the 90 gr scenar, or the 90 gr scirocco's to 3800 ish. I found some other sources claiming it's doable with this case, so i guess we'll see. Both rounds have a bc of .420....

.243" 90gr Scirroco

3800fps muzzle velocity

Advanced Ballistics Calculator - maximum point blank range is 369 yds when zeroed at 316 yds.

Numbers in bold = Velocity numbers to the right are ft lbs energy

Muzzle -1.5 3800 2886
50 1.1 3664 2683
100 3.0 3533 2494
150 4.2 3405 2317

300 3.2 3043 1851

450 -6.3 2709 1466
500 -11.8 2603 1354
550 -18.5 2499 1248
600 -26.6 2399 1150

700 -47.4 2205 972
750 -60.5 2111 891
800 -75.5 2019 815

Theoretically this is a 650 - 700 yard deer load... :D

So, do you think those are achievable numbers, or am i expecting to much??

If I can push a 90gr Barnes X @ 3500fps from a 21" barreled 6mm-284 and giving an est 50fps velocity gain per inch would be a gain of appr 250fps for a 5" longer barrel = 3750fps.

Yeah I say it should be doable...

I would also factor in windage especialy on the prairies... looks good on paper but even if you hold moa out to 500yards in the feild..... your still going to have a real good chance at missing at 700yards or greater anyway. One benefit that this quick of a rifle will have though is running shots at 200 or so yards would be slightly easier.

I've been thinking about rechambering my 26" barreled Ruger M77 to 22-middlested or 22-243 only thing that has been stopping me is its 1 - 12" twist.

Camp Cook-nice chart! 2 things to note for most of us, the bullet drop in 50 yd changes( need a damb good range finder). The second that range at which energy drops below 1000lbs. This, I belive, is the energy required to make an ethical kill on deer. I know it can be done with less but I don't thik it should. I know I will here all types of stories but this IMO.

For added "uniqueness" and a little performance gain, you could improve the 6-06, .25-06, or 6.5-06 to the Rocky Gibbs design. I love my .30 gibbs and I think the 6.5 gibbs would be pretty awsome too. In your case, the .25 gibbs might be a good one.

I use a 240 Gibbs for LR coyotes. Works very, very well out to 700 meters so far. Haven't had the chance to try it further. - dan

I have a 22-243 Middlestead, 27" barrel, 1-14 twist. Next time it gets rebarreled, it will have a 1-8 twist I think. Still, it easily pushes 55 gr bullets well over 4000 fps accurately, so it does a pretty good job on that front.- dan

When I built my 22-243 Middlested on a XR100 I used a 1-8" Lilja, then got the original 1-14 barrel fitted and chambered as a fireforming barrel. Ironically, the 1-14 shoots so well that it still lives there and the Lilja is gathering dust somewhere. I wish the barrel eating thing would kick in already.:bangHead:
