Do you still have lots of the Picatinny railed model available?..I'm having second thoughts...

I'm starting to think it's worth the extra for that option as well. It just makes it easier for me to swap up optics. Hmmm, might have to see.

I am a little confused also, I have one on the way but I didn't know there were variations of the non restriced version...

Me too.. when I ordered mine the only options I was aware of were tavor with Mepro21 or tavor with MARS. I knew you could buy additional goodies such as bipod, optics rail, left hand bolt, etc. - but now we are talking about BUIS options and the whole rail thing has got me lost. Maybe there are several threads going on this and I am missing some information from the others?

basically it is factory rail or BUIS, your choice. We can sell you the BUIS gas-tube so you can swap. This involves removing the barrel and rail.

If you buy the aftermarket rail, the BUIS stays as it was designed for the guns with the BUIS in place, thus is shorter.

From what I've read and heard from CanAm I believe these are the options available. If there are errors or omissions let me know and I'll edit this to show the correct info.

1. Mepro sight and BUIS. Mepro has tall base to ensure proper height.

2. Mepro sight and BUIS. Add aftermarket (short) rail for additional $300(?), swaps with Mepro, requires barrel removal. Mepro has tall base and will mount quite high if attached to a rail.

3. Factory (long) rail and Mepro sight, no BUIS. Mepro has short base, appears to mount a bit higher than the direct to barrel tall base version.

4. Factory (long) rail and Mepro sight. Add BUIS for an additional $75, cannot be used with factory rail, requires barrel removal. Mepro has short base so will probably mount too low (if at all) without a factory or aftermarket rail.

5? Mepro sight OR factory or aftermarket rail? I remember this being mentioned in a thread but never spoke to CanAm about it. May or may not be possible.

Other options I'm aware of are:

Left hand bolt. $200
Bipod. $200
MARS sight. $1500
MOR sight. $?
Restricted short barrel. N/C
Magnifier. $1150
Aftermarket magnifier mount. Hopefully coming soon. $?

Hope this clarifies and condenses things a bit.

I think the best setup would be with the Dlask low rail. So I`m thinking about the standard Tavor pulling off the Mepro and its mount installing a Dlask rail so then I have a rail and a BUIS. Then I will try and make a picatinny mount for the Mepro so I can put it back on the Tavor or use it somewhere else.

This is actually cheaper than the $300 upgrade rail as the Dlask rail is $99 bucks and you get to keep the BUIS. The you have to make a mount for the Mepro.

ah ok thats good to know that I took the mepro with no rail. BUIS is a must. There is a reason why we call it Back Up Iron Sights lol.

So when exactly did the option to go with a factory rail without BUIS come along? This is the first I am hearing about it.

And just to be sure - before installing an 'aftermarket' rail (dlask or 999 - not the factory option) you must remove the barrel and get rid of the two 1913 pads - correct?

You have to remove the barrel to remove the mount and then install the Dlask rail. Then your left with a Mepro sight with a useless base on it so we need soemone to make a picatinny base to mount the Mepro on. Maybe Dlask could make a base.

Is the barrel wrench included with the rifle?

Incorrect. The two pads are what the rail (any rail) or Mepro attach to. The reason the barrel must be removed is to gain access to the mounting screws/nuts/fasteners.

Your not the only one! In my case, I want the factory setup/optic with the new 1 moa red dot, I assumed that the BUIS were standard? Is this assumption correct?

What do you mean by factory setup? If you mean rail then your assumption is incorrect. See option #3 above.

I'll try to grab some pics and show what each option entails. Of course this could all be for naught if CanAm opens the crates and IWI has come up with something different than what has been shown so far.

Ok, hopefully this will help

Option 1. The picture we've all come to know and love.

Option1.jpg

Here's a pic that shows the height of the base on the Mepro relative to two AR risers and low scope rings.

MeproHeight.jpg

Option 2. This is a pic of a 999 aftermarket rail. Note that if the Mepro in the pic above were mounted on this it would be extremely high.

Tavor999Rail.jpg

Option 3. Note the lack of BUIS, long rail that covers the area where the BUIS normally is and different (shorter) base on the Mepro.

Option2.jpg

Option 4 will look like the picture above if the rail is left on, and would look rather naked if the rail were removed and only the BUIS installed.

This kinda shows shows the two pads on the barrel/gas tube where the sight/rail attach, as well as how high the tall based Mepro would be.

More food for thought...

If you want BUIS, the factory rail is not a good option to have as they both can't be mounted at the same time.

If you want to be able to swap the Mepro back and forth with another optic easily then you want the one with the short base, as the tall base will be much too high if mounted on a rail. Note the short base version will be much too low (if it can mount at all) if there is no rail.

If you're concerned about eye relief and/or scope bell size and clearance issues then the factory rail is the way to go, as the BUIS won't be there to interfere with your optic and it's long enough to cover a lot more mounting options.

There is a solution to all of this however. It's a bit of a compromise, but assuming that CanAm receives what is shown in the pictures and you want to have everything it should work...

Order the Tavor with the factory rail and low base Mepro, and also order the BUIS. Simply slice the rear of the factory base off (making it the same length as the aftermarket rails) so there is room for the BUIS, and now you can have BUIS, a rail and a Mepro that can be switched out without barrel removal every time. You lose some potential mounting options with a bit shorter rail, but that's a trade-off you'll have to make if you want the BUIS also.

Ain't options fun?! :)

But would the rear Troy BUIS align with the front sight?

Don't know I would have to try it on my current Tavor to see if it would work.

Update.

While comparing the stock rear buis to a troy one in height without taking off the scope I have on it. It looks like it might be possible. The front sight may need some adjustment though after cause the troy sight is rather high. Perhaps the lower HK rear drum buis would be a better fit?

This is what Im shooting for. Standard Tavor with the Dlask rail mounted, your left with a very low picatinny rail,BUIS and a now useless Mepro sight that needs a picatinny base.

Canam, can you order just the picatinny base for the Mepro sight just like in this picture below? Obviously the make a standard base for it as pictured here. Also does a barrel wrench come with the rifle?
