In the summertime nothing beats strapping the AR to the back of the bike and heading out to the range and stealing a morning for some high speed touring and plinking. (I don't know what the legalities of carrying a rifle on a bike are - and could care less - but I usually lock the case and the cops have left me alone so far).

In any event, this would make for some excellent adventure touring, pre-hunting season scouting - and a fine trip to the range!

I think Kawasaki actually makes one just like that one except it comes in ODGreen.

I remember reading a review of it, sounded like a well built bike meant for a lot of abuse. (and yes it was diesel as well)

I remeber seeing a tv show about 5 or 6 years ago where they were looking at different things the military was doing R'n'D for (future weapons or some such).

The bike was something the US Marines were interested in. It had to run on JP/Diesel (cause that is what the Abrams & Hum Vee primary fuel is), it had to be able to carry 400lbs of load (Man/Men and equipment), It had to be fuel efficient (over 40 mpg if memory serves) it also had to be near indestructble. The torture tests I saw them doing out were pretty scary (I'd never even think of doing that with your bike!).

At the time of airing the episode they still were in the midst of 'torture' tests and the KTM offering was leading the pack ahead of offerings from Honda, Suzuki and Harley-Davidson.

To be honest this is the first I hear that the KTM product won the trials.

Cheers!

Good news. You can have your own version of this bike if you want. You need the diesel conversion kit (new engine ) Progressive fork springs and rear shock, a whole bunch of skid plates, bark busters, pegs, etc and a few cans of paint. Or keep the gas engine (45+mpg) add a jet kit and new exhaust and all the other mods and again you are driving the dream. I did all the mods on one that I owned less the paint and it was unbelievable. A friend of mine still has his and he is pushing 400lbs. The bike can take it, but you will be replacing wheels and shocks if you're in that weight class. Search KLR 650 and you will find plenty of aftermarket accessories. Happy trails.

Chuck Norris isn't all people make him out to be. In fact, some say he was born a woman, and that when making love to women, he insists on the lights being off, and does the deed with a giant rubber #### to fool them into believing he is well endowed.
