EMT ONLY?? Doesn't anyone take an alternative method around here??

There is only one downside to EMT once you sent and deposited, it can not be retrived... I was scammed on ebay for some car parts... seller took emt so I sent him one needless to say I never got the car parts... after reporting it to the local police and then the RCMP needless to say it was never resolved and my money never was recovered... even though it was deposited into a bank account they could not get the bank to give up the infomation as to whos account it was deposited in.

So make sure when doing your deals you have some safeguards like the sellers address, personal info, contact info etc... or make sure the person is trust worthy, friend, business etc.

A great way to use emt which I just realized after sending about 100 of them. for example I bought a rifle this way the person is selling the rifle, so to show I was serious about buying the rifle I sent him and emt for the price we agreed on but only gave him the password when he provided me with a CFC transfer number we are both protected that way and third party is involved.

fair enough....I get the policy issues....guess I'm just frustrated that my bank is not one of the 16 institutions that handle EMT...

Not going to go back to any of those "big banks" just so I can send EMT....Postal MO's will hopefully get me all the new toys I can afford ;)

Well, there is no way to say this without coming across as a smart ass but...if you are into lack of services, then stay with your current bank. I for one use the bank that gives me the best bang for my buck. I don't care how big they are and how many kittens they sacrifice every day on the alter of capitalist profit.

What I care about is that I pay very little and get a lot of services in return.

I bank with Royal and for 10.73 a month I get unlimited transactions, internet banking, EMT and a whole bunch of other stuff...

My credit card, credit line and mortgage is through them too so I can do everything from my computer.

But, if doing things the hard way is your thing...who are we to tell you different.

Ok...you can give me the finger now.

I, too, deal with a major Canadian Bank and do everything through them. My Bank Money Orders are FREE, so no issue if the seller prefers a MO. For all possible EMT's. that is what I prefer, bothh outgoing & incoming. I will accept a personal cheque, but will hold item till the paper clears. I have to say, In well over 200 transactions here, I have never come close to being "stung." The vast majority of shooters and hunters are honest, upright people. Regards, Eagleye.

cheques should be banned ;) lol sorry, i have never written out a cheque before, who takes them in the real world? i've done just fine without them.
I use cheques all the time, ;) lol. They are like instant cash. They save a lot of time and money not having to go to the bank.

That being said, I normally use them where I am known and trusted. Examples are; the General Store, the Post Office, the Lumber Yard. I bought a car by cheque, lots of times.

I'll accept them too, but they have to clear or be certified.

can you do a direct deposit by phone? if you can, that would be pretty quick. but i find that an emt is a lot faster. click click click, ta da! 20-30 minutes later money has been transferred without giving out bank details.

to each their own i guess, whatever you are more comfortable with.

The reason I am now with a credit union is because I got tired of getting nickel and dime'd by the "big" players....plus Royal Bank, BMO and CIBC all came up short when it came to services and rates offered by Vancity....plus the "big" players all have the crapiest hours....no good for hard working people...

Just too bad they don't deal with EMT....I just sent payment out for some AR furniture today to a seller her via Cash....bank machines are everywhere...post offices too :)

Personally I hate (FRAUD ALERT) as much as the next guy...but sometimes as an online business they are a necessary evil....make it easy to pay and you will do business....

But, if doing things the hard way is your thing...who are we to tell you different.

That's a great idea...but that won't work for non-restricted rifles if and when the long gun reg. goes away...

The "EMT" is quick and simple. M.O cost money and need shipping. Cheques need a week to clear and will delay a transaction.
Even credit unions have a their own version of EMT called hyperwallet that works between credit unions. I deal with both.
Nothing beats an EMT for sending money to someone fast online. Get a play account with a regular bank to score those killers deals. What's the point to send a M.O for a twenty dollar item. (FRAUD ALERT) is a useless piece of s**t, especially, when dealing with overseas online scammers. (FRAUD ALERT)s socialist opinions on firearm related products enrage me. They should be boycotted by all firearms enthusiasts with extreme prejudice.

Who even accepts direct deposits as payment for private sales these days?

I only give my bank info out to the government, my employer, and other financial institutions. That kind of information is on a need-to-know basis, and some random Joe with an item I want to buy doesn't need to know.

I have accepted most payments via EMT. I have also accepted Canada Post money orders, Financial Institution money orders, direct deposit to my bank account and HyperWallet transfers. I don't like Hyperwallet because the funds are tied up for a few days before being transferred to my bank account. Some people only have Hyperwallet through their Credit Union though.

What's with the dislike over sending out your bank account details for a direct deposit? You do all realise that every time you write a cheque, all those details are in the MICR numbers on the bottom of your cheque, right?

Hey Folks,

I have made a few deals here in the short time I've been here, and noticed that pretty much everyone prefers EMT payments....just wondering why??

My bank doesn't deal with EMT...they offer another similar payment method called "hyperwallet"....I have my own Internet business and 99% of my customers use (FRAUD ALERT) to pay me...so it's what I prefer to pay others with....fast, easy, safe....and I am always willing to cover the fee to the seller....

So far this is the first forum sales environment I've seen that no-one will accept (FRAUD ALERT)...surely I'm not the only one who's bank doesn't offer EMT service!?!? So far I have been able to make other arrangements with the sellers I have dealt with, but it sure is a lot more hassle, and takes a lot longer for sellers to get their money...

Any thoughts, comments or suggestions from others out there with the same issues?

Why EMT? Because it is free for the recipient and very cheap for the sender (usually a buck or two). The transfer is nearly instant and the money is available in my account immediately ( to buy more guns).

Your "bank" doesn't offer EMT because it is not a bank at all, it is a Credit Union...the bank's retarded cousin.

Hyper Wallet is absolute garbage compared to EMT because hyperwallet asks for all of my banking information, address, full name, date of birth etc... over the internet, on sites run by who the hell knows!!! Did you get that??? OVER THE INTERNET... ALL OF MY PERSONAL INFO NEEDED FOR IDENTITY THEFT AND ACCESS TO MY BANK ACCOUNT!!! SMARTEN UP AND DO NOT USE THAT GARBAGE!!

With emt, you only need give out your email address and everything else is handled on your bank's secured web portal.

(FRAUD ALERT) (if that is their real name) is leftist, anti-gun, money laundering factory, that costs both the seller and buyer money! You have to wait days to see the money in your bank account, and they charge you again for the transfer to your bank account....just crap!

So, in short Credit Unions suck and EMT is KING!

When I give someone a cheque, that is different than sending unencrypted info over the internet.

Last time I picked up a book of cheques, I pulled out exactly one, voided it, and gave it to my employer for direct deposit of my paycheques. I then destroyed the rest of the cheques. As you can see I have very little use for non-electronic money transfers that aren't cash.

If I wanted to do my banking with little slips of paper, I'd build a time machine and transport myself back to the 20th century. :D

I'll offer you the benefit of doubt this time and call you ignorant.
But only this time.

And now a question for the EMT buyers: what do you do when the delivered goods don't match the description/pictures?

Emt is quick, yes. I've also taken MOs, cheques, been handed and handed over cash. It all works. I always wonder why it is imperative that the seller get his money immediately while the buyer always has to wait for the mail? As a seller, I can wait for the mail as well, if that's what it takes to help a fellow nut.

Well, I see by your massive trader rating, your vast experience on this site buying or selling certainly warrants calling me ignorant. I'll assume you don't know any better and let you away with it this time...but only this time.

Two occasions I wasn't happy with what I was sent, contacted the seller and renegotiated the deal and everything was looked after perfectly. 99.9% of the people on this site are stand up guys. You will find that out once you have made a few deals.

I use the most ubiquitous method of payment of the same reason I am not typing this on a mac or driving a Lada...
