Hello guys, today I would like to rant about the people who design guns. I don't know if they are engineers or what, but why is it a company like Sako can put 4 shells of magnums or short mags in a detachable flush mount mag, and Savage can only put 2 in?! Surely it can't be that hard to squeeze 3 or 4 in to a Savage mag without making it cost $1800 for the rifle. There is a 7mm short mag in a Savage for sale right now on the EE that would gather my interest if it weren't for that. I know you only need 1 shot for hunting, but it still erks me.

Thoughts.

That bugs me too. Minimum the mag should hold 3. Any something else, everyone should have a detach mag option. Like CZ. I love 'em. I have 2 now and see more in the future, but I want a detach mag. And Ruger, them too. Love em. Have a few now and always seem to be rotating different ones through my safe and will have more. Get a Ruger with a solid detach mag setup and that there would be a fine, fine hunting rifle.

And no, I don't lose or forget my magazines. I can remove my socks too, but that does not mean that I forget them when I go hunting.....

Have a day.

If you can read I said I only need one for hunting, but it's nice to have more. One time I was deer hunting and I jumped a pack of wolves laying under some spruce, would have been nice to have a 10 shot mag! Also I agree that there has been many a brand of rifle that I have not owned because they don't have detachible mags, Weatherby,...too bad.

The short action CZ 550s are supposed to have a detachable mag.

Try being left handed and finding a detachable mag...bugs the hell out of me. Can't understand this losing a mag comment. Surprised some people don't lose/forget their gun.

Party Animals!

What happens if you see 3 animals and you're party hunting? The more ammo the better (legally).

-Jason

I agree, what if you come across some Party Animals?:D
Seriously, bigger mag - I agree; detachable mag - I agree; and a decent set of Iron Sights, like Brownings BLR's sights (Not Marlin's garbage sights). So what if you want to scope it, go right ahead, but it's always nice to have a good set of irons to fall back on.

well, by a sako and see what kind of problem you have if you need another magazine. i have another rant going about stoeger canada right now, but basically i bought a brand new a7 that has a magazine that is useless. Stoeger is shipping out alot of a7's, but it looks like a 3 month wait to get mine and make my brand new gun anything but a single shot.. I guess that is ok for the range, and to get me through the winter.. still, what about customer satisfaction and service?

Weatherby's finally coming out with some lightweight detchable mags. Supposed to shave a 1/2lb vs. floorplates!

**newbie warning**
...Be irked buddy...
You gotta play fair! There certainly are engineers who design rifles but, not that many. I'm guessing the most "modern" aspects of current industry goes into production and, fabrication (bang for the buck...c'mon giggle). The "bang" part of engineering for our sort of toys has, mostly, gone by the wayside...

I'm thinking you don't have to have $1800's or, an engineering degree, to find a rifle that you truly apreciate...best time for shopping is right after season closes (warning...it was the rifle's fault)

My 30-06 Savage holds 4 rounds in a flush mag. Same gun in magnum calibers holds 3.
I guess it's been designed by an artist (as opposed to an engineer).

This thread is a source of mirth to me, since I have little use for a detachable magazine, [except possibly on a 22 rimfire] and never put more than 3 cartridges total in any rifle when I am hunting. Haven't emptied a rifle hunting this way for 25 years. Shows what a variety of opinions that are out there, all valid in some way or other. Regards, Eagleye.

So you've never stepped into a field holding a Whitetail, Mulie, Moose and Elk all at the same time? Hhhmph.

Show off...lol

I have heard this every November since I can recall. Simple fact...it's true. I know o/u hunters also...
I personally, filled my 10 shot clip on the 'ol AG-42b the first year I hunted with it. Quite legal back then. Maximize resoursces...and (beginner's luck) ,it was a 1 shot, 1 deer year. I still had 9, just in case....95$ rifle at auction (and, laughed at for it) not $1800.

Use what you've got
