I'm thinking about picking up a brass catcher or my AR15. Anyone use one? Anyone have comments or suggestions. I thought they were stupid for a long time, but now that I am reloading I am starting to see a use for them.
Thanks

i ordered this for my robarms xcr

it's the universal flat top model.

it arrived about a week after purchasing, and i requested and they obliged to shipping via usps/cp.

the one downside so far with the 50 rounds or so i've put thru it, the case mouth is half mooned due to the ejection force from the rifle.

i haven't tried to size the cases yet, but i assume they will be fine:confused:

also the dual pin system they use is kinda of a pain as they're not really quick release, as you have to tighten them down via 2 lock nuts

Brownells makes a great one. It attaches with a Velcro strap around the forend and will probably fit most rifles. If it doesn’t, it from Brownells so there will be no problem returning it.

I see the usefullness but they're just so uncool... we're goign to start using a big tarp to shoot on at the range, will be very easy to see brass so it should be fine.

The system from 3bucc would be better, because a) it's a cloth bag, no banging-up your brass and b) it's quick-detach.

Brownells sells them.

I just throw a towel (or a shirt, or a jacket, or whatever is handy) over the top of the scope on the mini-30 and let it hang down over the ejection port. Works perfectly -- brass ends up in a nice neat pile beside me. I have not had to go looking for a single piece of brass since I started doing this --- and if you've ever been around a Ruger Mini, you know that thing will fling brass clear into the next timezone if you let it!!

I'd really like one for my SL8, picking brass out of the gravel really sucks. I'll probably end up making one myself. I've see them on the net but they all cost a small fortune for what they are.

I had this one, it is crap. But better than nothing. As it loads up it starts to spin then it stops catching.

Universal fit, but hot brass (hot gun + hot day) will melt the nylon bag - been there and done that. Also a pain to install and remove.

I've put hundreds of rounds at a time, hot and empty into mine with no melting, just the slipping like I mentioned.

These are the cats azz. I have two that have the mount for the carry handle, and one for the flat top. I made a couple adapters out of some risers so I can use this same latter brass catcher on several flat top guns. Since most ranges have rules for picking up brass (even if not a rule, and you don't reload, it is just common courtesy to clean up after yourself), these catchers make life way easier than chasing and sweeping up brass. These ones hold about 70 223 and about 50 308. The flat top one also works great on a CX4. A great investment to save you headache. Well worth the $80.00 or so. They snap on and off easily, gets easier with use and just plain getting used to doing it. With regards to appearance, they are black, but its not a fashion show. They have not gotten in the way for me at least in practical terms. These ones will stay firmly in place even when almost full and will not fall off. Just don't forget to close them up again after you empty them or you will have a pile of hot brass fall in your lap.

I made one from a small fishing net attached to a 2X4. I have a mini 14 and I hate chasing brass and the guy to the right of me hates having them dropped down his back. PM me if you want to see a picture.

use it harder and you'll find the limitations already mentioned. The only reason to get one of these is a) cheap and b) universal fit to a gun without a top rail. Go 3Bucc instead.

1200 round in 35 minutes all cough in this bag. No issue with that.
All .223 out of an XCR. I don't think I will do that again (or can afford to) but no issue with melting or falling apart. Maybe I got lucky?

I'm surprised these arent banned yet. They deny evidence at the scene of a shooting involving semi autos. I had one of the old ones with a soft bag, it was OK but occasionally cased a jam due to the case getting caught in the ejection port of my Ar15.
