So what does 9.3x74R compare to size wise?
Converting to imperial, it would be .366 caliber and about 2.9 inches long. Length compares to a .375 H&H, and the case diameter roughly the same as a .30-06.
So what does 9.3x74R compare to size wise?

The case is much bigger than a 30-06. The rim is
.526. Base .469, shoulder .409, neck is .391.
Case length 2.91, bullet 285gr .366", max case capacity is 83gr of H2o to over flow.
So is the "bang" as big as my 375H+H?
Non if the manuals I have get within 200FPS of the H&H , but like you stated, the cartridge was not designed for that .I would say no. The 375 HH has a little more shove. Only slightly more in my opinion. The 9.3 x 74 was originally designed as a double rifle round and therefore was built to lower pressures which is how I shoot it.
In a new strong action -- well I would speculate that you might get it up to equal a 375 HH shove.
Mine is a real "combined effort"!I had the same gun as your Tikka, except it was the original Valmet. Regulation was easy, and it had an amazing trigger. I swapped it for a cowboy action pistol. My 9.3x74R now is a Ruger #1. Good gun, but the trigger needs work, which I will get around to eventually. - dan
So is the "bang" as big as my 375H+H?
yes, but the 375H7H can be loaded far higher than factory as well, so it is all relative. In A Ruger #1 it would be a close match.
I have a book somewhere called Big Bores that had a 9.3x74 in a #1 in it. If I remember right the guy loaded to some pretty spectacular velocities.
Keep in mind the number one does not really show pressure....Be careful here.
