Thoughts on the 93x74R in Ruger #1

The case is much bigger than a 30-06. The rim is
.526. Base .469, shoulder .409, neck is .391.
Case length 2.91, bullet 285gr .366", max case capacity is 83gr of H2o to over flow.

Much bigger? I already stated the length was similar to the 375 H&H, and we all know that's longer than a .30-06.

I said diameter compares to the .30-06 roughly.

.30-06 = Base: 0.471" Shoulder: 0.441" Neck: 0.340"

9.3x74R= Base: 0.469" Shoulder: 0.409" Neck: 0.391"

I was trying to give a guy perspective on a cartridge he's never seen before. The case capacity comes from the length.

I would say no. The 375 HH has a little more shove. Only slightly more in my opinion. The 9.3 x 74 was originally designed as a double rifle round and therefore was built to lower pressures which is how I shoot it.
In a new strong action -- well I would speculate that you might get it up to equal a 375 HH shove.

Non if the manuals I have get within 200FPS of the H&H , but like you stated, the cartridge was not designed for that .
In a Ruger you may be able to push it faster, I don't know how the brass will hold up however....

I had the same gun as your Tikka, except it was the original Valmet. Regulation was easy, and it had an amazing trigger. I swapped it for a cowboy action pistol. My 9.3x74R now is a Ruger #1. Good gun, but the trigger needs work, which I will get around to eventually. - dan
Mine is a real "combined effort"!
The receiiverver says "Tikka", the butt pad says "Valmet", and the shotgun barrels are Marrochi, with thr rifle barrels being Valmet, IIRC!
I'll take some pics and get them up here.
LMAO!!I just took a good look at the gun, and the shotgun barrels say " Tikka made in Italy"!!
Here it is with the 9.3X74R barrels, and the QD mounts with the IOR 4X

Here it is

with the shotgun barrels and the Brileys slid into them.
I can't help to know, that although I love this gun, it would be nowhere NEAR as accurate as a No.1 Ruger!

So is the "bang" as big as my 375H+H?

In A Ruger #1 it would be a close match.
I have a book somewhere called Big Bores that had a 9.3x74 in a #1 in it. If I remember right the guy loaded to some pretty spectacular velocities.

Keep in mind the number one does not really show pressure....Be careful here.

yes, but the 375H7H can be loaded far higher than factory as well, so it is all relative.
