I picked up a 788 'NIB' ( estate sale ) in 308 for 500.00 shipped, nice little rifle

Man congrats ! thats awesome.The rifle I am looking at is in good condition and also comes with a cheaper Bushnell mounted scope. The bolt seems a little sticky when using it but besides that looks in great shape (Iam not a gun expert) any input on this firearm is appreciated. thanks again, again Remington 788 243. Thanks
Buying or selling?
Epp's recently sold one in .22-250 for around $399. A .243 would likely be worth a bit more. Used 788's aren't common these days. Shooters who have 'em don't want to give 'em up.

There was a nice one on the EE here about a month ago for $425 + shipping IIRC. Not sure what it sold for but I handled the same rifle at our two day gunshow here in Victoria back in Nov and almost bought it. It was about a nice condition as you could expect.

could be dry, a touch of lube , not on the face of the bolt, but the sides,give it a good cleaning also , and check the action screws/bolts etc...

'eddy' the bolt on my 788 is also a little 'sticky' and mine was never fired, Im thinking they did not spend a lot of time refining these rifles
If so a bit of toothpaste will fix that, plug the chamber with cotton or a plug of sorts first, don't want it in the barrel
With out running down to the 'room of doom' the 788 bolt is a knock off of the 9 lug system from Weatherby and the ones I have handled all seem to be a bit gritty in the cycling dept, Im leary of wasting a .98 cent tube of Crest from Fields
