Buying your own ammo? That's about as rediculous an idea as buying diesel for your truck instead of taking furnace oil and adding acetone to fuel it. As the saying goes "the shy man gets nothing".

diesel /furnace oil = same stuff

How stable does a thin disc fly? Imagine paper-thin discs of hard steel - stacked unattached in a cup - wind resistance would be minimal edge-on - maybe 500 of them 2 thousandths thick would make an interesting load to test.
