EMT ONLY?? Doesn't anyone take an alternative method around here??

For many folks the trust we gullible westerners persist in, is just not an option.
I dare say the exchange forums and EMT are not for them. Stores are good.

You give your bank info out to every person you write a check to.

As far as credit unions, I don't understand the appeal.

Big banks have the services, full range of services and 24 hour call centers.
I was shocked that when a friend found an unknown withdrawal in his bank account, there was nobody to call to confirm it, had to wait until the next business day.

I don't pay any bank fees (well I do keep a minimum balance).
I'm okay being treated like customer #X. Just provide prompt reliable service cheap and I'm happy.
I go to the same garage and barber, there the relationship matters.

Banking, what's the point, it isn't like they will offer a better mortgage rate, or be "more understanding" than if you meet with a manager/supervisor who reviews your banking history.
 
One pet peeve of mine is that some sellers don't post the EMT/MO only clause in the listing. You are stuck figuring that out when money is due after the "i'll take it.".
 
Wow. I've been online and using eBay and (FRAUD ALERT) for a decade, and did not appreciate some of these issues. I never liked (FRAUD ALERT), but figured it was a necessary evil.

The anti-gun (FRAUD ALERT) policy... how do you reconcile that with the fact that I can buy all sorts of gun accessories on eBay, and they use (FRAUD ALERT) exclusively?


EMT seems to be a totally superior option in Canada if you have an institution that supports it.

I like the fact that as a seller gets charged no fees!

Is it just as easy with international transactions?

EMT is not free for me! And a couple of times, it took days for the seller to get it, though usually it gets there within an hour.

With my CIBC, EMT costs me $1.50 for each one I send.
But they let me do any money orders for free
Also all checks (or cheques if you speak British) are free.

Note too that direct deposit to the payee's account is free everywhere, and is instant, although you do have to physically go into a branch of that brand of bank to make the deposit. This one is my top choice.

You forgot to add the cost of mailing a money order. Most people would not accept a money order sent snail mail as it could be 7 to 14 days. So money order sent express post is $7 to $10 and 1 to 3 days. EMT's are $1.50 and usually received within 30 minutes you can see why people want them. Cheques forget it!! I would never accept a personal Cheque. Last one I accepted in 2002 was a company cheque that bounced and I will NEVER accept one again. When there are options like EMT to expedite and already slow process of transferring firearms why would a person want to go back to the 80's and accept a cheque?

Another option is to provide you transit and account number and ask a person to go to a branch of your bank in there area and deposit cash. Free and instant.
 
When EMT is on the table among other pay methods these vendors can come across as wankers. They will bust a pending deal with you when you are first to respond but want to go down to a bank the next day and direct deposit. Cheap. What made EMT the best choice when people with a good rating respond and show interest? Where's the respect?

why can't I deposit via direct bank account ???

I quite often send bank to bank drafts in excess of $10,000 dollars with no hassle and its instant

I've tried telling folks that if they just tell me what bank they deal with and along with their postal code and last name I can walk into a branch of their bank without and account number and just deposit directly into their bank account... if their happens to be more then one john smith in the postal code I'd call the seller from my cell phone and let them call the branch Im at back and tell them the account number... never does any private info ever have to be given to me... but for some reason folks are skidish...

this hasnt been a problem for me so far as the one EE deal Ive done said "EMT Only" and the seller took a canada post money order... I think most of it is about good communication...

I have had that happen as well. The best one was when I said I would take it at the asking price. Guy says great, send me your information. When I do he gets back to me and says he sold it to someone local instead. The way I look at it though it is all part of doing business on the EE.

I had this happen on here about a week ago and as far as I'm concerned it it constitutes at worst a breach of contract and at the very least an appalling lack of sincerity on the part of the seller. eBay bashing aside, I've never had this happen during the years that I've been doing deals on there. One expects better from a fellow member of the "fraternity".

It depends on the individual and what is available to them and their means. I try to work with everyone if I want something bad enough and if I am selling something and want to liquidate it.

The EE is like any other for sale listing service....the buyer and seller must negotiate the payment method and their are no rigid guidelines for that...luckily, or it would likely exclude a lot of folks from the EE.

i am REALLY skiddish when it comes to giving out my bank info... give thanks to those damn nigerians for my anti-givingoutyourbankinfo attitude :( so many scams come out of that country it's disgusting.
