Ordered one from Marstar just before Christmas for my wife's birthday...it is a beaut! The stock is definitely not the chu wood that they use for the M14. It is some kind of fine grain hardwood with a very nice laquer finish. I cleaned the grease off and couldn't resist putting a mag through it. It was dark out and I can't tell you what the grouping was, but it has a tight, strong action. Not typical Norcino metal either, the reciever, barrel, and other metal parts are very well finished.

I should have bought two. Anyone considering a bolt action plinker for the wife or kids or yourself, I highly recommend it. After handling it you'd guess it cost $300 (Johnone, that was not a hint). I really need to set up a photo account, but anyone who wants pics can email me.

Any sling recommendations for this? I'm thinking a nice black or brown leather...

Repro K98 slings fit if you buy the SHORT ones. The long ones (proper length actually) need to be trimmed to be tightened to parade position. I've done this mod and it's quite easy. Or, if you're like me, you'll keep your eye out for a full length version of this Norinco rifle (called the TU-KKW and quite rare in Canada):

I just got mine right after New Year. Totally agreed with shootemup, another Norinco with surprising quality. You just need a lot of patches and need time to punch out the pin closest to the barrel to give it a total clean up. Overall is good and the action is very close to my CZ 452 American. But the magazine is not interchangeable, as someone suggested.

I had one that I recently sold to another member and it was very accurate, trigger pull was nice, not heavy, didnt creep. It wasnt picky with any ammo, but I found the federal 40 gr solid copper high velocity stuff was the most accurate in mine. Nice rifle, reliable, fun to shoot.

They must have had a quality improvement program or something! I bought one at Levers two years ago when they had them on sale for $100. Boy, were they roughly made! It looked like it was fitted with a 14" double cut bastard file, marks all over it, the rear sight ramps completely different from one side to the other and not even close to a correct curve. The safety couldn't be applied until I fitted it properly. Nice concept but at that time, at least, very poor execution. I flipped it fast.

As I said, some of the small bores Marstar brought in, like JW-14, 25A or EM332 are great buys. 25A is very popular among Chinese gunnutz in China as well. In China many people use small bores to hunt big games, not because they are unethical but have no other options.

For the money you pay for JW-103/105 you deserve a better made gun. Just go read the review of JW-103/105 in red rifles.

I think your rifle was an exception rather than the rule. I've owned four or five different ones and the worst one I owned had a bit of a trigger problem and that was it. I think you may have just got a bad specimen. I have heard of other folks having sight issues with them but personally I've never had one with a wonky sight.

What kind of scope is that?

I received my JW25A a few weeks ago. I can shake the front sight off the rifle. The dovetail seems to be machined correctly, but the sight itself (that sits in the dovetail) looks undersized. Any ideas how to fix an undersized front sight? Locktite? Paint the sight to build up the dimensions? Weld more metal to the sight and file it down to fit properly? Request a new front sight from Marstar?

Take a centre punch and put a punch mark on the dovetail of the sight blade. This should raise the metal enough to give resistance and will also be able to be put back into the rifle fairly easily. Also, once the sight it in the right place, you can place a punch mark across the gap between the blade and base to jam it in place. Clean and professional.
