Well - it reflects a recent Supreme Court of Canada decision - when the highest court in the country says so.....

Since when do supreme court of canada decisions have anything to do with common sense? What is legal is not always right,or safe for that matter, this incident proves just that.

If they claim its their "Heritage" rights then lets set some rules..
No firearms of any kind, use a ***home made*** long bow, since there were no sporting goods stores in the old days to buy from. And while we're at it, no spotlights or trucks either. Sure as he!! didn't have those back then.

Years of Liberal lawyers have doomed us and the wildlife in this country. In Manitoba natives have rights to all wildlife in the province. If there is an excess population non treaty people have the right to harvest game.(ergo hunting seasons and rules)

I can hardly wait until my great grandson is old enough to go hunting....he should be able to shoot a 270 when he's 6 . Look out mooses...gotta feed the family y'know.....
In the mean time I'll take him fishing ...well as soon as he is 3 in another 2 years ....or can hold a rod...or deploy a small gill net...or hold a landing net in a spawning creek...
Oh, did I mention that he already has his treaty card .
Hmmmm...hafta talk to my son-in-law's SIL...she's Meti (smart, lovely girl), loves to hunt and fish...she knows all the legalities...
Hey, if the Supreme Court sez it's OK who am I to complain....if you can't lick 'em, join 'em...

You say this like aboriginals have some sort of social advantage over you. Even with these "unlimited" hunting rights would you seriously trade shoes with a aboriginal from a remote northern community?

If you ever spent more than 5 minutes in a average remote northern aboriginal community I could guess the answer to that question.

I think all natives have this special "right".
Not just the remote northern ones.

Anti native remarks no, more like the rules need to be changed. I read the posts . and i feel its more anti system than anti native.

x2 A native, as any other person, has the right to do as they please with their life.
But it should be under the same laws/advantages/disadvantages as everyone else.

Is it ethical to feed a 6 or 7 year old coffee ? ...like, how will I keep my great grandson awake long enough to jacklight a moose or deer...so many questions...
If I teach him to tape a flashlight to a scoped 22 Magnum would that be considered as contributing to the delinquency of minor or as teaching him in the traditional ways of his ancestors, as set out by The Supreme Court of Canada.....so many questions....
If I #### a 175 pound pull crossbow and put a broad arrow in place , but let him pull the trigger , would that be ethical or legal ? He should be old enough at three to squeeze the trigger on a X-bow, right...no recoil to worry about ? Is a crossbow a traditional weapon ?...oh, right it don't matter...so many questions....
