:mad::mad::mad:

So I sent my scope to Bushnell last year.

I fought with it for a good 6 months. I tried 2 guns, different mounts and several different rings. I could not get it to zero, it was always at least 10 inches high, and then when I changed the magnification it would shift POI at least an inch or more at 100 yards. Depending on how much I changed the magnification.

So I call the tech support. Which is no more than a voice message saying to ship the product to their US address along with $10 US (return shipping) and a description of the problem and they will fix it and ship it back. So I do it. By now I have pretty much realized that this can not end well and I will never see my scope back and if I do it will never be right. But I have nothing to lose except to money to ship it.

I got a box from them today and GUESS WHAT!!??:mad::mad:

THEY GAVE ME A BRAND NEW SCOPE!!!!

They didn't even bother to fix it, just pulled a new one off the shelf and sent it my way. It is sealed and everything. I sent nothing with the old scope (no lens covers, sunshade, dust caps) and got it all back brand new!!!

I didn't even send the $10 for return shipping. I just said because I am in Canada I am sure $10 won't cover it so I left my number so they could call me and I could provide a VISA, but they didn't bother.

Oh, and when I said that I sent it last year, it was the 1st week of December at the earliest. So it only took em 5 weeks at the most!

I have always sang the praises of the Bushy Elites ( I have 4 different ones) and now that I have dealt with one bad one and had such great service, I can't see me ever changing that now.

Yep. Lots of folks like to talk bad about Bushnell (and I'm sure they've had the odd incident here and there where they were in the wrong; same as everyone other high volume vendor on the planet), but I've always found myself totally satisfied with their "performance vs cost" ratio of the products in general, and the odd time I've ever had to deal with their customer service; they have always left me feeling happy and satisfied.

I have the odd bit of optics from other vendors, but by and large, if Bushnell makes a suitable product at a suitable price point for any given application, I'll buy the Bushnell (especially if it's got rain-guard on it -- that stuff is like magic in rain/snow!).

I love hearing this type of thing.

I've never had to deal with Bushnell customer service because I've never had a problem with a Bushnell scope.
I still own the first one I ever bought,used,and it's rode a 30-06 or .270 for 3 decades.

There comes a point where this:

Starts to have more importance than:

THEY GAVE ME A BRAND NEW SCOPE!!!!

I guess you're not there yet.;)

There comes a point...

If it was a common occurrence to get bad scopes from Bushnell, I'd be the first to agree with you. But I've had scads of Bushnell scopes over the years (as have most of my friends), and so far, have never had/seen a bad one (other than one I picked up during a little "adventure in eBaying").

Don't get me wrong -- the very fact that Bushnell has a warranty department, convinces me that not all Bushnell scopes are flawless, and I'm sure that one day I will end up owning one. But Leupold, and Zeiss, and Swarovski, and Weaver, and any other scope maker you care to name, they all have warranty departments too (all of which, I assume, see regular use).

Other side note -- for the small investment in a decent boresighting device (I gave $20 on eBay for mine), you can diagnose scope (or mount) problems with ease. Simply put the boresighter in as if you were about to sight in the rifle -- look through the scope, and tap the scope and/or mounts with a small rubber mallet. If the crosshairs don't move, you're solid. Then crank the adjustments through their paces while looking through the scope, and watch for tracking issues.

That $20 boresighter has saved me a pile of money and time over the years (including giving me the instant heads-up (and later my money back) when I was sold a broken scope on eBay). I highly recommend everyone get one.

I agree

What kind of boresighter do you use?

That's just it. The first time I got a new one I thought "great". Then they fixed one and I thought "OK" I alternated between "Great" and "OK" til I realized it was getting to be a habit. Then other descriptive words were used. ;) It ended up being either 11 or 13 returns in less than 2 years. Life's too short, I've declared a bushnell free zone.
When you get to staring at that rifle in the rack that isn't being shot because the scopes in the mail somewhere, or a scope packs it in during a elaborate load workup cancelling all that time components and fuel and puts the project on hold for a few months, you quit caring whether there's a warranty. I just want something that doesn't break, or at least not very often.

I feel your pain; I'd be cranky too. But I don't entirely know what to make of your experience -- as I said, I've used almost nothing but Bushnell scopes for years, and other than one that had been abused (badly) that I ended up with from eBay, I've never had a bad one (though there was once a misunderstanding on my part that led to Bushnell replacing a scope for me when I bought one with an inappropriate parallax for my application, and then sent it off to them complaining wouldn't focus properly). Then, there's a guy over on HuntingBC who's name I forget, that swears to me he's had 6 or 7 bad Leupold's in a row.. I don't know what to make of his tale, either -- as I've seen lots of Leupy scopes, and never a bad one.

Perhaps it's just the laws of statistical randomness, that some guys get bad scopes one after the other, and some guys don't? It sure worked that way for me and guns for a while there -- I got 4 or 5 guns in a row with really annoying accuracy problems a few years ago -- drove me stir crazy (so much so, that I thought I was about to join the Bushnell-bashers club; surely the scopes must be bad, how could I get one rifle after another with 3 or 4 or 5 or in one case, 8MOA performance?).... then, I started buying Tikkas, and lo and behold, the scopes were just fine; t'was that whole string of rifles pre-Tikka that sucked.

Well, I bought two 4200 6-24x50 last year. The turret's on one got a real 'mushy' feeling instead of a nice 'crisp' feeling when being turned. We (the dealer and I) sent in in the start of april last year. It's still not back... I looked on the interweb and it said it was being prepared to be shipped. I figured I'd give them a call... just to clarify when it was being shipped. Turns out it was shipped the start of august. So... now they have to contact the dealer, and Kanada post......
So, even if I would have gotten it back, that still would have been 4 months..... a pretty good 4 months of shooting. But, it's still not back....
Bushnell's are great scopes when they work. I have 3 rimfire ones, and 3, well 2 4200's, and th coats are great :)... but there warranty sucks, as everyone I know who's had to deal with it has had a 'lengthy' experience.

I've had problems with a bushnell 3200 10X and a Leupold variX II 3-9X40. Both mounted on CZ rifles with those damn integral mounts. The first one went back to Bushnell & was replaced. The leupold was sold for market value minus the cost of a tube replacement from the Korth Group who do all leupolds repairs in Canada.

It's pretty easy to bend scope tubes, lap your rings carefully or if you're dealing with a CZ, take it to P&D and pay them $45 to mount the scope.
In the unlikely event they wreck the scope, they'll give you another one off the shelf and deal with the repairs themselves.

Bushnell was great about the bent tube, and gave me a new scope even tho I'm sure they suspected it was my fault. It's pretty easy to blame a scope for piling up, but if you are having trouble consistently, get somebody else to do your mounting for you and see if it persists.
