I have a line on a few brand new HK 5/30 factory magazines, made in Germany, 2006 / 2007 manufacture date.

I know several people have asked me about HK mags in the past and I also know they are very rare here.

I don't have a price yet. I got a muffled guffaw when I asked so it leads me to believe that they won't be cheap but that's what PMags are for.

Any thoughts? Is it worth me grabbing what I can? I'll try to find a price as soon as I can but I have no idea right now. I don't even know what they typically go for because I've never seen them on the EE before. For all I know, they'll be $250 each and I'll just forget the idea. But seeing as some HK rifles are going for $9000+, maybe there's a market for that.

AR mags? 5/30 G36 mags are worth their weight in gold (maybe more).

Yup. I want to call them STANAG mags but I know there's something HK does differently that makes them so desirable. These mags will work in a regular AR-15 though so maybe they are STANAG.

They are steel mags though, not the smoked polymer G36 connectible mags.

The HK mags are $30-40 in the US. I think I've seen some people try to sell the mags in the EE for $75 and up.

Nothing special: steel = too heavy.

From what i have seen from people in the know, the HK mags are heavy and not very durable. They work well new, but soon wear out and you cant find replacement springs or followers. The answer is PMAGS, they are more reliable and durable, you can easily buy parts replacement and on top of that they cost alot less. The HK mags might be good for the hobby collector though.

PMAGS are superior in pretty much every way. Okay EVERY way.

HK mags were the 'cool' thing before PMAGS, but comparitively, they are heavier, less reliable, and wear out quicker.

If you're talking AR mags - PMAGS are the ticket
If you're talking STANAG mags - I think EMAGS are supposed to be the best.

I'm not sure if anyone commenting here has actually owned and used the HK mags over a long period of time.
I dont' think the Pmag is more reliable than the HK Mag.
Where the HK Mag falls down is that it's heavy and the lips bend when the mag is dropped on the ground (especially when loaded) or if the mag is stomped on (while on the ground) when in use.
PMags shine in these areas, taking heavy abuse much better.
I own both HK and P mags and find that both are execellet products.
If you are not going to abuse the mags and are not worried about weight, (hard to be when they are loaded with only 5 rounds) then in my experience and opinion the HK mags are better as well as more reliable.
Reports of HK mags being unreliable are connected to bent lips and damaged mags, from heavy abuse (like dropping and stomping on them while training on cement).
The HK Mag is one of the, if not the, finest mags ever produced for the M16FOW's, with the above noted disadvantages.

I disagree 100 % with your comments.

I have tested HK mags for about 3000 rds on 4 mags. The Hk mags are junk. pure junk. nothing but jams and stuck follower. The PMag 1st gen had NO failures on 4000rds than the HK mags. Read on the US websites, a lot of people seem to have the same opinion.

USGI generic mags with green folowers has more success than the HK mags.

An mag is meant to be dropped. In dirt, in snow, on concrete... anywhere.
If from its conception it does not handle a somewhat reasonable abuse, the product is junk. I cannot justify buying a 50+ dollar mag that cannot be exposed to dirt or actual ground, when a 15-20 $ mags handles the smack and bash of a match or a 2 way range.

kako 911,

I don't mean to be rude and maybe it's way too late.....
I have no clue what you're talking about.
You obviously did not get the same HK mags that I have. I have been running them in an Hk 416 (select fire), MR223 and an SL8 (with crappy after market mag kit) with zero issues.
They will take alot of abuse but I do admit are more prone to bending the lips, because they are so heavy when loaded (I think the HK engineers underestimated the weight of the mags when loaded).
I will admit that I have not used them in an M4 or AR15 (Althought I don't think that the action is that much different from a HK416).
I don't believe everything I read on US or other web sites either.
Are they over priced? Yes
Are Pmags a better value and a great product? Yes
My HK Mags are not junk, I don't know which lemons you got. I never had or seen a stuck follower in one.

I dont see how you are being rude. Everyone is entitled to his opinion.

No probs.

The HK mag i got are the latest gen made for the hk416 that have the tolerance between the mag body and follower rehashed. Hence the problem with the slightest amount of dust in them.
To put it at its simplest form, after having tested them, they simply don't work for me.

Hence the objective conclusion report:

1-TOO expensive

2-cannot rebuild them...

3-Heavy as lead

4-Prone to breakages as anything else on the market.

5-Just as prone to deformation as anything else on the market

6- They still rust, a problem which no other type of Alu, Magnesium or plastic mags have...

No harm in saying that.

The springs in the Hk mags are junk.
Several USSOC units have decertified them for use, and a safety advisory has gone out on them recommending them to be pulled from operational stock.
They are no longer to be bought.

The mag was designed for the SA80A2, and it does okay in the Hk416.

They suck dog's balls in Mk18's as the spring rate is not set for the bolt velocity on that gun.

For a collector - yeah they are cool. I have two still in the plastic wrap. However for anyone considering them for duty usage, I would strongly recommend against it.
