Assault rifles...for people with good taste" ??

Let me answer your question,

NO, NO, NO.

This is a gun board. Occasionally you will even see pictures of guns here. We might even discuss guns on occasion. Whether we call them peace and s or baby killing death rods it wont make one bit of difference to the anti gun grabbing communist zealot...

So why should we hide when this is our home? So while your here, please dont s**t on the rug. Thanks

Damn USP your in trouble now, You woke my woman with my laughing.

on a side note do you know where i can purchase a hippy f**k love stick?

guys the points been made, no need to dogpile the OP. If he spends enough time here he will end up agreeing with what most have said.

That or he will get fed up, decide that this is a group of redneck dog f**kers, and find a better board. That would be a shame. BLUEBLAST, take it all from the source.

The reactions to BLUEBLAST's question are utterly indefensible and smack of the lowest form of intelligence. "It's our site and we will do what we damn well please" is a myopic and dangerous attitude. This thread alone would give the anti-firearm lobby plenty of fodder for their cause.

Firearm use and ownership needs to become an "intelligent" pursuit and whether you like it or not each one of you is a representative of our vocation/sport. Remember that when you post. Remember that when you run into someone who has differing attitudes towards firearms ownership. Arrogance and intolerance have their costs and they can be severe.

In this thread someone said that this is our living room and that we should be able to undo the top button to paraphrase. I am sure I could never recreate the initial quality of the thought. Well this is not our living room. If it were then we would have hundreds of people in it and not all of them friends. Would you act differently then. I think you would.

The "Assault Rifle" label is a very good question. You all balk at Wendy Cuiker's use of the term and spend a lot of time correcting people that we do not own assault rifles. When people incorrectly state that Mark Lepine used an assault rifle you bristle. And, most hypocritically, when someone suggests that it is an inappropriate title, he is pilloried. I am sure you can see the inconsistency.

There are many on this site that have the attitudes of spoiled 14 year olds that do not want to have their toys taken away no matter how badly or childish they act. Few here tend to see the future consequences of an action before they act. And if you think that a strong statement then read the posts on this thread again. In the majority the statement is valid.

As firearms owners, it is imperative that you think before you open your mouth or put words to type in any format. This board and its members need to be respectful of others and their opinions and discuss topics accordingly. The respondents that think it is OK to just blurt out whatever garbage they feel selfishly justified at the time to do so are going to be the same ones that give credibility away to anti-firearms groups and they will be the same ones that wonder why and stamp their feet when their firearms are taken away.

Its better to be silent and thought an idiot than to open your mouth (or type) and remove all doubt.

Severus,

You have hit the nail on the head with your post. In particular the line "Firearm use and ownership needs to become an "intelligent" pursuit" rings as an absolute truth.

I have spent many years in re-enactment (watching the attempted restriction and political play around swords and medieval weaponry) in the airsoft community (watching the fight for legalized importation in Canada and the licensing debates in England) and now recently with the firearm community in Canada (learning of our continued struggle against diminishing rights and understanding).

The myopic views, hypocrisy and immaturity shown at times within these groups has done as much to damage and destroy their credibility and influence as the 'anti' crowd and their efforts. I wait patiently for the day when any of the above communities can stand united, with members pooling their various skills and ignoring ego and self aggrandizement.

I encourage everyone to re-read Serverus' post again and reflect on the following: We fight a cause which is currently based largely upon OPINION rather than fact. Opinion is human and is made based upon the semantics, tone, dress code and charismatic influence of the various sides of the argument. To win over opinion we must provide BOTH a LOGICAL and EMOTIONAL basis to garner a majority following. Due to this, semantics, consistency and fair play (amongst many others) are of paramount importance.

All else leads to a destination we understand and fear.

Regards,

Mike.

X2 - Best response so far.

We don't get any mileage from being so politically correct tha we re-name inanimate objects because we're afraid to offend somebody we don't f**king like anyway.

People need to understand - the antis will still be against us regardless if we go on our knees and beg to kiss their a$$ or not. Stand up and proclaim your rights, don't slink around like a whipped dog trying hide in a corner.

OK, this is a perfect example of what I am talking about. Lets break it down and see where we have issues.

You are correct in that we do not get mileage for being politically correct. But you do get mileage from being considerate of others and their opinions and working towards solutions that work for everyone.

When you say "People Need to Understand" you are simply telling us that which you believe to be true and for some reason we should just shut up and accept it because it came from your mouth. There is no understanding included just dogma, the same style of dogma that you detest from the anti-firearm crew.

Who said anything about getting on our knees, kissing ass, or acting like a whipped dog. You should have added "knee jerk reaction" because that is the essence of your post. Being smart about firearms ownership and its promotion will never successfully involve the tactics and attitudes that you proscribe.

You have to be the change that you want in this world and if you promote intolerance and lack of understanding you will one day be faced, yet again, with more restrictive firearms laws. If the majority of Canadians think that all firearms owners have the same attitude and demeanor as you have just displayed then get used to the idea of using your index finger and thumb formed like a pistol at the range because firearms will be banned permanently.

When someone says "all firearms must be banned" they are simply saying "I am scared, hurt (or whatever) and I want to feel safe." Until the firearms owning community gets that we will always have the threat of tighter gun control over our heads and it be because of attitudes like those you have shown.

That applies to a very small group. The gun control industry is just that - an industry. It is designed to get votes, untendered public contracts and the like. I have time for those who might feel insecure (as if government can actually create that), but as for the industry, they can kiss my ass. I really don't care if that makes me unlikeable.

The firearms industry is just that, an industry. We have manufacturers, wholesalers and dealers. Gun control is a lobby. It is not an industry. At its core is the human trait to overestimate small risks and to underestimate large risks based on our historical caveman emotional programming. Add to that members who have actually had close family members affected by gun violence and you have a perfect storm.

It is only by tolerance and understanding that this conflict will ever be solved. Every time you tell them to kiss your ass you take the whole process one step backwards. No one cares if you are likable. But just like everything else there are times to say what is on your mind and times when you don't and instead listen. Knowing the difference will get us farther ahead.

Is this stupid thread dead yet? IBTL.

I will agree to disagree, but jeez.. dogma? That's a word with very little meaning in this context. Of course my post is my opinion, or my dogma. Exactly like your post. There is no imperical proof that what you say is a factual representation of reality, other than you saying it is. It's your opinion, nothing more.

I did not promote intolerance, except to those people who are intolerant to us. The difference should be obvious - if someone attacks me, they should not be surprised when I fight back.

Most of the people we must convince are not the witless scared fools that you have represented. They are simply misinformed. Those people can be reached with respect, reason, and factual evidence, not by playing word games and calling a gun a flower.

On the other hand, the hardcore anti wants to end private ownership of guns by any means, for reasons known only to them. It may be fear, loathing, even ###ism.

The hardcore anti doesn't care about right or wrong. They are liars. To treat them otherwise lends them credence where none is deserved. Loving gentleness will not change their opinion, and giving them an inch is a mistake that will not be reciprocated.

By all means, be nice, tolerant, and forgiving. But also accept that some people will see that as weakness, and they will use it against you. And, when the situation warrants, be ready and willing to fight for what you believe.

Roger that. Very well said by the way. If I could add one thing it would be that sometimes it is better to let the hard core anti dig their own hole with the shovel we give them. And you are right about having to fight for what you believe in. But better to keep shells in your pocket than to hand them to your adversary...ever.
