First gopher of 2010

Who's going to be 'The One' to claim the honors this year? I see by the forecast that it's supposed to be getting pretty warm in Southern Sask and I would imagine Southern Alta would be as well. I wonder what the earliest it has been for gophers in the two provinces. On a side note I saw a dead skunk on the side of the road last week South East of Prince Albert and what looks like fresh Badger diggings in the last week.

I shot one about a month ago (doesn't count for 2010) while I was out calling coyotes. He was the only gopher in the whole field (which was covered in about 6" of snow). It was the darndest thing.

Its been 6-9 above the past few days, alot of snow has melted, im sure there are a few brave ones out running around.

I havent been brave (stupid?) enough to drive my 2wd out into any fields yet

Only 1000? My est was about 4000-4500 for me. I went through 5500 22LR alone

I had to sight in a few rifles today and thought I might take a gander for a few critters. Unfortunatly there was still a bit too much snow and clouds where I play, but maybe I can try again in a week or so.

When I used to drive hwy trucks across the prairies my co-driver and I used to have contests to see who could run over the most , it was a hoot lining them up with the front wheel of the truck, especaially on the drivers side because you could look out the window and watch em "squirt"!

Cow pastures. Worked 2 sections pretty hard for the last 2 years, I am curious to see how many are around this year, hopefully enough to keep me busy from mar-july
