Sorry if the truth hurts, but my statement is factual and is no reflection of my ability.
Open in Canada can be won by old men who should be in a rocking chair, no one is really serious here.
If you are not a pro gunsmith it is unlikely you can tune a 9mm open gun to 100% reliabilty. ( the only US shooters who can win with 9MM are JOJO and JL Hardy, both are pro gunsmiths, Eric Graufel who is very frugal shoots 38supercomp in matches but what would he know)

I suppose that depends on how "serious" a competitor your are. In my view, shooting minor in open is not a problem until you start missing alpha. A "serious" competitor would shoot major only because of the potential (inevitable) point loss. I am thinking of going open minor next year because I shoot for fun. So I guess I am not a "serious" competitor. To each his own.Reading all the post's so far is a shooter in a go nowhere situation if they shoot 9mm minor in open class?
That means no serious hard core drinking at a match,
WHile it's somewhat of an orphan these days, the origional Caspian high cap 1911 frame and magazines seemed to work well with 9mm and 9x21.

In fact I still have mine in 9X21. It always ran fine, but if you compare the magazines of one of these to 2011 mags, you'll see the difference immediately. The Caspian mags actually look more like 9mm mags.
Back to the original question, I think you should consider which platform you are considering first. If its a small frame Tanfoglio, or CZ, maybe a Glock- I will go out on a limb here and say that 9mm in those guns should give you no issues as they were designed around the 9mm round. A hi-Cap 1911, well that's another issue, if you have a gunsmith that knows how to set it up properly, or you yourself know what you're doing in regards to tuning then yes it is feasible. Large frame Tanfoglio does have feeding issues, relliot explained this clearly with his own experience. Sure brass can be cheap and plentiful, but if your gun doesn't work, cheap brass doesn't mean anything. I shoot 9mm and 9x21, but in guns that are true 9mm guns and I have no issues. If I ever decided to switch to a hi-Cap 1911 or Large frame Tanfoglio I would directly go with Supercomp. I would rather just shoot than mess with trying to get something to work.
Can A Shadow turn into an Open gun without issue? I have two myself and I can spare one out to transform.
No, I doubt it very much. I thought of that also when I decided to go back into Open, but the work and expense involved in retrofitting, if it could even be done, would be way too prohibitive.relliot, I recall guys modifying Tanfoglio mags to use in their Caspians, what about the Caspian mags in a Tanfoglio? Could the Caspian design help the feeding issue in the Tanfo?
they did a SIG open gun, dont see why you couldnt with a shadow! Can A Shadow turn into an Open gun without issue? I have two myself and I can spare one out to transform.
