When I was in Haiti back in 1978 the police & military (hard to tell them apart) were carrying M1 Garands. Their military was pretty pathetic. You could see the history of the airforce by looking at the wrecked planes pushed back into the trees along the edge of the Port au Prince airport. They even had a navy of sorts. I recall a minesweeper settled on the bottom of the harbour with the crew running up flags, doing drills, etc.
Haiti was about the most miserable place I've ever seen; heavy with the stench of poverty and squalid living conditions-and things have'nt changed at all.
Sad part is, we already welcome them in Montreal, instead of finding home and food to our homeless.... my 2 cent...
We have our own problems that should be fixed before bothering with other nations problems (IMO).
You're DAMN right.
A nation that's done nothing to help itself in the past 50 years, and whose people show no interest in raising themselves out of the mudhole they're in... well, my money's better spent helping teach a little CANADIAN-BORN child to read in CANADA where they might grow up properly and become of some benefit to the world.

Just saw a video on CNN of Haitian cops going after looters. One of the coppers had an M14. Did the Yanks give some to Pappa Doc in the 60's?

I had the chance to visit the Armory in the National palace basement when I was living there in 97.
Some pretty keen stuff, not all in good state, but nice
M-14
M-1 Garand
M-1 Carbine
.30 Cal GPMG
.50 Cal
Not that much munition....
With what happened to the Palace, I wonder what happened to all these weapons
Baby Doc's body guards had Uzi & M79. Haiti also had an assortments of towed AAA & some anti tank rocket launchers but very little ammo.
