Ok I am going out in the mud and rain tommorow. I am using iron sites only, what sort of groups should I aim for at 100 yards and 200 yards. Will be using a 10.5 AR and 14.3 Swiss carbine. Either 55gr or 62gr. Minute of pie plate? Will shoot off hand. Any ideas?

so try for 6 inch groups off hand at 100? How bout 200? 12 inch groups? I havent shot this distance without a scope or optic in quite awhile.

Full-silhouette, but I'm thinking circular groups anyway. Awkward with the FAL if you have little arms, carbine easier :).

so the standard is basically being on paper at 200 or 300? I looked up a picture of the Figure 11, seen them before, but hadnt heard them called that.

I think I cant hit it with the diopter on the Swiss at 200 but not sure about the Troy sites on the AR.

On paper at 300 unsupported when I was in the British army, not Infantry. We never fired further than that. SMG was On paper at 100 unsupported, which was easier.
Unsupported does obscure the mechanical accuracy a fair bit, in my hands anyway.
I wouldn't dream of shooting unsupported at 300 at real Zombies, except to scare them as I run in the opposite direction.

Edit: "unsupported" should be "standing unsupported".

Depends on how well you can shoot -
My 10 '' AR does 1/4 to 1/2 '' at 200 yds with a bald eagle rest and no wind -

Off hand does 10 inches to 10 feet depending on how much beer I had the night before - LOL!

I did about 10 inches or so maybe alittle more off hand -10 and freezing today with the Swiss rifle. Was using the diopter set at 200 yards though, 62grain WWB. I really like this gun... its balance is perfect. It is I think the best gun I have ever shot.

I don't have my C7 PAM handy, so correct me if I'm wrong. But I believe that in order to get a top score on any C7 PWT the minimum requirement is a 100mm or smaller grouping with a C79 sight, prone, unsupported, at a figure 11 on a 4 ft screen. With issue irons I believe it is/was 150mm. I believe the max allowable size is 200mm with the optics, and 250 with irons, but that only gets you half points.

Correct me if I'm wrong again, but any shooting done beyond 100m is considered practical and any hit is counted as a point. I've only ever seen groups measured at the 100m point.

Then again, we are using full length barrels. I've seen guys score under 1 inch with a C7A2 from the 100m point on a few occasions. I average about 1.5 to 2 inches.

You average 1.5-2 inches shooting standing up, unsupported using irons only at 100M? Blah thank #### for shotguns or I wouldnt be able to hit ####!

I couldnt/ didnt want to shoot prone today, the ground was a combination of swamp, mud and ice....

"Prone, unsupported" in CF parlance means shooting from the prone position without a rest, such as a sand bag, and yes, I use the C79. :p

Though I don't have too much trouble getting hits from the 100m standing, unless we just finished the run down from the 400m point...

I prefer the back up irons to the C79, and I beg, borrow, or steal a set and zero with them before we do any practical/tactical shooting. I hate the C79 Elcan sight with a passion. Some guys don't mind them, some like them... to each their own.

So theres no scoring or system for shooting standing up then? Just prone, unsupported with or without optics?

As far as scoring is concerned on PWT I, II, and III... no. A hit is a hit.

I believe they have their 'reccomendations' for what the average soldier should be able to do, but beyond the 100m prone, anything is scored as a hit.
