While strictly speaking this is not a post about precision riflles, it does have a vicarious association, so I'm hoping the mods will grant it clemency...

In BC, we have formally adopted the F-Class Factory/Sporter class in all but the Provincial CHampionship matches!

What does this mean? It means that if you are interested in trying prone shooting competition with your factory Savage, Remington or Tikka and you really don't have the first clue where to start, these are a great match for you!

Here is a quick overview of the technical rules...

The Spirit and intent was to allow people with unmodified factory rifles the opportunity to get involved with competition using what they owned - not having to spend thousands. There are exclusionary criteria for single shot, for purpose built target rifles like the Savage F-Class guns etc.and for 40X models etc.

Any bolt action caliber up to 338 LM - no brakes allowed! (rug. #1 and TC Encore are acceptable)
12 pound max weight with all attachments
Factory barrel unmodified
Factory action and trigger (may be adjusted)
Any stock, may be bedded
bipod OR front rest or shooting bag
rear bag
no rear monopods
any sight: iron, scope, dot, etc.

10 shot strings, not 15's

Shoot at the larger TR target (1 MOA) not the .5 MOA F-Class target

All our matches will welcome you with your factory sporter! For those dabbling about taking their game to the next level, or wanting to more about precision shooting, come and see what people are using! See what wins!

This is a good place for the Savage vs. Remington debate to be solved once and for all!!

If you have any questions or would like to know more, email me (NO PM's!!) however, manners count... crackberry messages with no name or greeting are ignored.

I hope to have this up and running on the bcrifle.org website fairly soon along with the finalized shooting schedule!

Cheers,

Ian

Congrats Ian, I know you worked hard for this. It'll be good to see more folks get into competition, and this is such an easy introduction.

I offer a bit of clarification to Ian's note above. As recently appointed ISSF Director for BC, and Match Director for three matches to be held at Mission this year, I have adopted the "Sporter Class" in two of the three matches. Look for further details on the entry forms which are scheduled to be issued by the BCRA some time next month.

ICFRA rules will still apply, single load only.

F2.11. Magazine: In countries where magazines are legal, a magazine - if fitted - will not be used except as a loading platform for single rounds.

to answer a few questions,

-all chamberings shoot in the same class.
-Anything that recoils with the rifle is applied to total weight. Bipods are weighed with the gun, Front rests are not.
-semi auto, no. Autos, definitely no :)
-Factory barrels all have the factory stamping (Remington, Savage etc.) No stamp, not factory.
-Magazines may be on the gun, but these matches are fired single shot.

...the point of F-Class? This may shed some light.

Put into very simple terms, if you own something like and an SPS, a Stevens 200, a 10FP, or a 5R milspec and your gun weighs less than 12 pounds with all its attachments, you are good to go!

Shoot a match with what you have, and your competition will be using rifles every bit as accurate as yours. It will boil down to shooting ability, and the luck you have with conditions on your particular relay!

Above all this is fun and it is about hanging around a bunch of guys that worship the sports of shooting. No "attitude" snobbery or cliquism, it is about fun.

I am always delighted to hook up with new F-CLass shooters and help them get going. There are a few on this board that used my guns in their first matches.

Hmmm. I think I'm gonna have to weigh Rita to see if she comes in under 12lbs. It'll be close. Someone already said a sendero 7mm with a scope comes to 11lbs. Mines a rum with a mk4 and a bipod. I could see myself having fun at these matches. Plus, it gives me a reason to leave the gf at home!!

Funny thing is that she has a tikka 270 that she wants me to handload for so she can come out and shoot instead of being my spotter. We just had mysticplayer bed both our rifles and she's dying to go shooting. I suppose that's a good thing though

KT, we don't use spotters in F-Class so she can shoot all by herself!

I AM warning you, we have had an uncomfortable number of wives/GF's show up and beat (sorry... DEFEAT) their men in competition!

Pretty much every match in Chilliwack and Kamloops has people camping out at the ranges and these become terrific social occasions where a great deal of shooting wisdom is often imparted.

We are also very good about trying to help out newcomers that may be short a piece of equipment such as bipods, rests, bags, mats. We always try to make sure you have enough stuff to get you through the day.

Yea. Cause all I have is my rifle. Haha. And even that might be overweight. We shall see. I'm definately interested in coming out. My brain is a sponge and I like hearing people talk about anything to do with any type of gun. Would I have to become a member of a special group to enter? Or is it a rung what ya brung, show up and shoot type thing? And what are the prices like?
