Pistol storage

I cut out some foam so I can store them vertically in a stack on case. I can fit 5 handguns in it now.

Here is the definition for safe from Wikipedia please read the WHOLE thing:

in the Canadian firearms act it states clearly, that you have to store your restricted and prohibeted firearms (when not trigger locked)
locked in a safe, vault or a securely-locked room built or adapted for the safe storage of restricted or prohibited firearms

Here is a question for you Mr. Einstein:

How do we call a safe which is built or adapted for the safe storage of guns ?

Yes, you got it! Bravo.. a gun safe of course...

Now all you have to do is search the web for Gun Safes; this should give you an idea, what they should look like.

Hope you followed me and this was not to tuff for you.

Thank you and please STOP spreading this garbage of misinformation!

Fixed it for you again. It is the room that has to be built, adapted or modified for firearms storage not the safe.
Now about your wikipedia article, can you quote what class does the firearms act say the safe should be? Oh, it doesn't? How come?

Really, you need to lighten up and start understanding what you're reading.

cheers

ps: you still haven't found the legal precedent, have you?

From the CFC site, its been posted many times before:

Lock the firearms in a vault, safe or room that was built or modified specifically to store firearms safely.

Look at the way its written,

Lock firearms in a vault (comma) safe or room that was built or modified specifically to store firearms safely.

It is implying storage must be in a vault OR a safe OR room that was built or modified specifically to store firearms safely.

No where does it say that a safe must be specifically a gun safe or vault. It only implies that the room must be specifically modified or built. if they intended for it to mean that it must be a specific gun safe, they would have wrote it as:

"Lock firearms in a vault designed specifically for the storage of firearms, safe designed specifically for the storage of firearms or a room that was built or modified specifically to store firearms safely."

A steel cabinet meets the definition of a safe. Like mentioned, these laws are not in place to prevent theft, they are in place to prevent the owners from gaining access to them quickly.

If we can practice lightning quick mag changes or speed loader reloads, what is to keep us from developing the speed to open our safes/cabinets with the same speed and dexterity?:D

I would guess the liberals who wrote the law have a hard time with basic mechanical locks (the whole turning thing gets them), and combo locks are like fort knox to them. Therefore, they assume everyone has the same issues.

I have my gun cabinet in the closet of my room. My room is on the secound floor, the door has a lock on it and the closet door has a lock on it. Would this count as a modified room ?

Sorry Polaris.

LegiOn and LeeEnfieldNo.4 are Right on this one.

Throw a deadbolt on your closet and hang a sign that says 'Gun Room'. You just built a room specifically for storing firearms.

I would be a little leery of storing handguns long term in a foam rack, foam can hold moisture and could cause rust on your handguns. Even if you have desiccant in your safe the foam could attract a little moisture. Just my opinion, no offense or criticism intended.
