chinese or russian for basic plinking?

actually the early chinese, you cant tell the difference in quality.

Russian, Russian, Russian, Russian,Russian, Russian,Russian, Russian, :)

Anyway you will not be able to find good Chinese one from factory "26" or something. Russian are chrome lined good quality SKS just buy one you will not be sorry about that decision. Nobody is saying that Russian have bad quality. For Chinese ones you always get a mix message. So to be sure go with Russian.

i get it ... russian is the best , lol.

but i also like to have a few chinese , especially the SKS-D .

I realize this. My early Chinese actually displays a few Cyrillic Russian markings.
It was a sarcastic reply to one user who implied that the Chinese were making unauthorized copies of the sks design.

The Russians gave the Chinese parts and tooling, aswell as one on one training. All first year SKS56 are Russian guns minus the stock "dont beleave me well I have one with russian ser# and its /26\ ;)

I would say any /26\ pre 1965 are the same quality as any russian.

They shipped everything even "technicians" who put it together for Chinese. Let just call them teacher with lunchbox :)
First Chinese SKS are in fact Russian SKS that were produced on Chinese soil.
All the parts were shipped too they just put their marking on it. That is all.
Historic fact.

the first year production of chinese SKS are called sino-soviet .

i view the early production chinese SKS not a knock-off but rather a sibling to the russian SKS , made from the same machinery.
