SocomII Kaboom!

Too bad for the owner, a very unpleasant experience.

As for kabooms, the only two I have seen in person were Ruger double action revolver and 1911. Too much powder in both of them. I have never seen a Glock or Norinco kaboom yet, but I am sure they happen, especially when you double charge the case.

I saw the results of a Marlin lever kaboom in a 45.70 Guide gun, that was settled by threat of lawsuit in the US.

Thats what you get for buying a Norc.

If Norc and Glock just stopped producing junk there will be no Ka-booms.

That's an amazing assertion. No. Really.

Your uncanny judgment must stem from your amazing 'attention to detail' quotient. Except that a Norinco isn't the product in use in this catastrophic failure.

Norinco makes an excellent M1A product. Full stop.

While I LOVED my Springfield and do appreciate some of the inter-brand rivalry, I am seriously considering a M14doctor built-up M14s for my next M1A fix because the quality is impeccable and the price is absolutely right.

Many noteworthy builders actually prefer it to other commercial offerings.

What the f*** does that even mean? Irregardless isn't even an actual word.. and if it was, that still would not make this sentence coherent. I'm not trying to be a prick, but really.. wtf is this supposed to mean:confused:?

What he said. Until we hear some more info, it's just speculation.

More info was given
The operator in this kaboom was using reloads.
And based all we have learned in the past about kabooms with the m14 platform.... reloader error has destroyed yet another rifle.
Let it be a lesson to all who reload for this platform ... Be diligent with each step.... Or else :D

I don't know if this will help you guys more, but here are some tighter crops of the photos

I am guessing a raised primer? I have caught one of these in my reloads before. You really, really have to ensure proper seating depth on these or similar full-floating pin rifles.

Disclaimer: I know very little about M14s/M1As - shot them a few times, but don't own one. So please forgive me if it's a stupid question.

Looking at the photos, I am wondering what the owner's options are.

Is the rifle repairable to a "safe to shoot" condition, or is it cheaper to write it off and buy a new SOCOM II (my understanding is that those aren't as cheap as Polys and Norincos)?

Are major components (trigger group, receiver, barrel) salvageable ? (I'd imagine that EOTech survived)
