Favourite 22 cal ammo

You gotta get out and try everything!

My 10/22 likes the American Eagle 38g CP HP the best and no issues with the federal bulk packs either. For more money the CCI stingers and CCI Seg HP also worked well.

did not like the Rem Cylone. Last time out I had stove pipes, FTE and feeding problems with it.

Federal 525 bulk packs and CCI MiniMags are the two I shoot the most. I may start exploring less expensive alternatives as these two are getting much more expensive.

Less expensive than the 525 packs, I don't think such a product exists any longer, perhaps you might find a decent buy on the Win 333 packs? FS

Federal bulk packs are in the $30 range now locally. I have seen Winchester Dynapoints 500(?) boxes for less, but haven't tried them yet.

I tried every thing a few years ago and found 2 rimfire rounds that provided acceptable accuracy in many of my 22 rifles. At the time I wanted to purchase a good supply to last a couple of summers as me and the nephews could go through it quickly.
My 2 best are the Federal American Eagle in the 38gr hollow point and the Remington Game load 36gr HP.
I also use the Paco Tool with the Federal ammo and makes a very nice enlarged hollow point for putting the extra THWAP factor on gophers.
Winchester PowerPoint ammo is a great product in most 22's. but expensive relative to Federal.
For targets at the range any of the subsonic product seems to produce acceptable accuracy. Generaly speaking the more expensive the ammo the smaller the hole at the range. Like Lapua Master series, very small groups in my CZ Full stock. FS

*For semi-serious paper -- Federal 711b
*For serious pest contol -- CCI Quik-Shok (like Stingers but with unplated cases and pre-fragmented bullets)
*For gophers -- Any cheap HP.

I love the Quik-Shok (part #0064), on anything bigger than small marmots (groundhogs) it's very rare that I get an overpenetration. When the neighbours started asking me to reduce the marmot population because of the property destruction, I started with Stingers; but on anything less than a complete front-to-back, I got an exit wound, and I hate to have bits of lead flying around when I'm shooting so close to irrigation equipment and vehicles (the aluminum irrigation pipe really thin).
This spring I'm looking to add the CCI #0074 (don't know yet if it's got a cool name) to my ammo box. It's got a segmented HP like the 0064, but at subsonic vel so it won't be quite so loud and "snappy". I just hope the 40 grain bullet comes apart like the 32 grain bullet at the Stinger sorts of velocities.
Because that 0074 crap sure was hard to find and spendy!

But props to Scot at Cedar Valley Hunting. Thanx, bro.

Where can I find Eley Subsonics?

I would imagine any dealer that sells Eley could get them for you...

That reminds me I only have one box left :( the last time I found them they were ~$8 for 50(2 years ago). They are quite a bit quieter than the CCI's and the bullets are coated in Bee's Wax? IIRC but 2x the price...

Win Dynapoint for plinking, they are quite accurate in my CZ's.
Win Subsonic HP or Rem Subsonic HP for hunting.
CCI STD Vel or Fed 711b for target.

All of my rifles like Dynapoint GT's, while both Ruger pistols like Federal 525 bulk pack ammo. I do have a CIL/Anschutz 310 that I was told likes Fiocchi target ammo, but have not tried any of the pricey stuff in it yet.

Plinking - Winchester Dynapoints or 333's
Gophers & other pests - CCI Velocitors or Federal HV HP's
Small game - CCI Blazer
Casual Target - Lapua Super Club or RWS Rifle Match
Serious Target - Eley Match EPS or RWS R50 or Lapua Midas (in that order)

CCI Velocitor for hunting, Fed bulk pack (I have about 20K of it, most purchased at $8.87/box before the whole border thing became an issue) for plinking, and I have a Beretta Model 70 that loves PMC Moderator so I have about 2500 rds of that set aside just for that pistola.

I do, however, have an entire wall locker pretty much dedicated to "variety" with full and partial bricks of about 20-30 different types of rimfire ammo...
