are those Turkish shotguns from Marstar any good?

hey all,

i'm wondering if those Turkish Tomahawk shotguns (from Marstar.ca) are any good. i'd only buy it to have fun and make a lot of noise, no serious shooting or hunting or anything like that. and maybe just to make "click click" noises at home while pretending to blow away bananas and tomatoes on the kitchen counter.

they're not expensive, they look nice. are they of good quality? i'd prefer the 2201XP pump instead of the automatic.

do yourself a favor and pick up a dirt cheap 2 3/4" Wingmaster instead and start modding away... youll end up with something vastly superior.
 
hmm, those old threads seem to talk about previous generations (which i didn't even know existed) which were iffy.

modding? hmm, not sure that would be my thing. i'm not one to buy something and then "rice it up" (or in this case "tacticool it up"). i'm just looking for something that looks nice (one or two notches up from plain), is reliable for common use (not gonna see mud or crud), and not expensive (since it'll just be a noisemaker / ye-haw! kinda gun).

i'll take a look at what a Wingmaster is.....

modding it doesnt necessarily mean 'tacticooling it up' with picatinny rails, heat shields, lights, lasers, etc.
could be simply buying an aftermarket stock and take-off barrel for your intended use.

although its funny that you mention it when this is the gun you were looking at:

you really think their quality did a complete 180 since then?
 
this might not be the right thread for this particular thought, but that's one aspect i never could understand - buying a gun, and then changing the stock and barrel. isn't that like 80% of the gun??? seems weird to buy a gun only to replace most of it.

so ya, that's the gun i came across last night, and (if i DO buy it) i'd just keep it as-is. it's one or two notches up from "plain" right from the factory, and looks tacticoolish enough for my tastes. for example, i wouldn't bother buying that fold-over stock even if it's "only $50".

even back in my car days, i never got into modifying stuff all that much. some people like to tinker and adjust and personalize - me, i've gone the other way.

so, going with the "not gonna make any changes", i like the looks but if the functionality isn't all that great, what's "looks similar, priced similar, works much better"? those Wingmasters are nearly double the price, aren't they?
 
the point would be that you would be working with an 870 Wingmaster action - that is light years ahead of the Tomahawks in terms of quality/smoothness/reliability/safety - and after you bought the exact stock and barrel that you need it would cost the same.

the only drawback would be that it would be a 2 3/4" receiver as opposed to 3", but that can be easily remedied if its important to you.
since you mentioned youre just buying this "to make "click click" noises at home while pretending to blow away bananas and tomatoes on the kitchen counter" - which im assuming is a joke and you mean you just want a plinker - then a 3" receiver isnt important.
 
I was looking at those turkish shotguns also, but i was looking at the semi auto version.
I went with the norinco HP-9 from Frontier instead. I think i made the right decision, it's alot of fun.

correct - it would be for plinking and just having outlandish fun, no serious duty like hunting or competitions. and yeah, i don't think that a 3" shell would really be needed - i'd likely just buy a few boxes of the cheapest ammo available at the local LeBarons. as long as it goes "click-click, BANG!!!" i'd be quite content!

my intention is to let my target / competition side be with a handgun

'scuse me for not being up-to-speed on all the models in the shotgun world.

like i said, to me this would mostly be a noisemaker / uber-plinker so cheap-n-functional is where i wanna be. and i'm not looking for something to pass down to my kids (i'd rather invest the money i don't spend and pass on some wealth when the time comes).

so yeah, ok, as nice as that piece looks, if it's not really all that great even considering the price, maybe i'll pass on it.

what else IS there in the $300-$400 range (off-the-shelf, no mods) that looks interesting and shoots well? something i can either buy at LeBaron's or online and not have to mod it to make it right.

if you have a LeBarons club card (10% off), the 18" 870 Express with +2 mag extension is $350 before taxes there. that would be your best bet. if you dont have a club card be sure to get one since it will save you 10% on ammo as well.

or look on the EE and pick up a used Mossberg 590.

If you look around you can find a baikal MP-153 semi auto for $400. Its not "badass" looking like those tactical shotguns but its fun to shoot and is built tough.
 
I picked up an old 870 wingmaster from a farmer $80 cash and it nails geese after I spent $50 boaring the barrel. Very reliable, best I've used. There is good reason Yankee cops used the 870 for so many years!
 
An old Wingmaster is far and away better then any entry level pumpgun offered new these days.

Buy a good used one off the EE, cut the bbl short and have fun with one of the best sporting shotguns ever made. This is good advise, but no good to you if you don't heed it.
